Going to start a new thread in here for neat things that I have noticed with the NEW Space marines.
First thing. Played a game with Shannon vs his Nids on saturday using 9th ed points.
Game was Great. Lots of back and forth. Space Marines lost however end score was 44-49 for the Nids. Nexus was awesome and let us try out the Mission Cards that you get in the Leviathan Box. Really fun. We both picked Fixed secondaries (which you get to pick). And I tried a Gambit in the end to try it out, and did not get it.
From the Game I noticed that you need to make a round army. I brought a lot of things that could kill infantry, and shannon brought a lot of Monsters. I had a hard time getting through his toughness with my low str weapons. POWER FISTs are low strength weapons. A power fist S8 vs T 12 wounds on 5s. Even with Oath of Moment. it was hard.
My worst unit i brought IMO was a squad of 10 Heavy Intercessors. T6 on the Gravis was nice, however I found that their weapons with 20 shots at Str 5 Damage 1 could not really do much against anything with more than Toughness of 5. Perhaps I needed more infantry to shoot. The Gravis however also made it hard to give them a leader. I could only attach two leaders. A Captain or a APOTHECARY BIOLOGIS . The Biologis would be a prime Leader has he gives them Lethal Hits. Ill try that next time before I rule them out of my list.
My MVP for the battle was the Gladiator Lancer (which i aptly named Glancer) his ability "Aquilon Optics: Each time this model is selected to shoot, you can re-roll one Hit roll, you can re-roll one Wound roll and you can re-roll one Damage roll when resolving its attacks" Helped to take down a monster each turn without having to use Oath on the target. The Str 14 Cannon also helped.
Ill likely run more Armour in the future. supported with Infantry of course.
I brought a unit of 6 Blade Guard with an attached LT, and Banner; they killed 20 termigaunts in close combat. as they disembarked from a drop pod.
I did like putting Primaris into Drop pods. Totally going to keep doing that.
Going through the Index looking at other units I have noticed a few things. First the Inceptors weapons are nice, BUT they are only one. They are classified as assault bolterS and their weapons only say they have one. So its treated as a weapon system even though they have two guns. Still awesome with Sustained hits 2 and PISTOLS.
Outrider squads Now can take a ATV in the squad like old Bikes and Assault bikes.
Vindicators can fire into their combat with their blast weapon and no minus. Just bulldoze your way to the other side of the table.
New unit that i thought would never get played in 9th, but seems to have weight in 10th is the Hammerfall Bunker. (ill be bringing one as soon as my order shows up at Nexus) Hits on 4s. However it can fire in your opponents turn if your opponent finishes a move within Range of it. (Can do this 4 times a turn) with Twin linked heavy bolters (36"). Or Twin linked Heavy Flamers (12").
Assault intercessors are handy with re-rolling Wounds against an enemy if that unit is on an objective.
