I have a couple questions about proxies, just trying to get a general idea of what people will accept.
1. If the bases are the exact same size, would people mind if I don't use GW bases? I can easily cut more bases out of plasticard that are the exact same diameter/outline by tracing real GW bases. Just wondering if I could save some money this way.
2. Would people mind if I proxied in some Rockgut Troggoths to represent Ogroid Theridons? They are on the same base size, and I'd like to convert them into chaos trolls.
On top of all this, where is the line that you draw when it comes to proxies? (Obviously no base size changes or big size differences)

I think that as long as the base sizes are correct it shouldn't matter if they're official gw.
Proxies as long as the same general size shouldn't be a problem.

For me, the biggest thing is the base size... As long as that is the same, I'm all for it.

I haven't seen any issues in our community. For me, clarity of what is what is important. So a given model in a given configuration should only represent one "thing" on the tabletop. Besides that, proxy away!
Since you will converting the models nobody should have any issues. There are some great conversions around here!

I think all the points on proxies were pretty well covered. I will just add that china cast bases on ebay are crazy cheap compared to GW's nonsense.
When I discover I need a few of a particular size, I just order a 50 pack and it usually costs less than $20. Not exactly overnight shipping, but it's not bad either.

Going to echo what everyone else says. As long as the base size is correct go right ahead. Especially if you are going to convert something. Just be consistent with what the conversion is representing. The model range is big enough people might not even realize it is a conversion. The only time you will run into problems is an official GW event but there are not many of those around.
