I thought that pop I heard was a car backfiring as it went down the highway... It must have been Kevin's detonating aneurysm.
But... we can hope that GW is going to be using rules like this to make a better, more theme-appropriate Death Guard codex. Get the bugs worked out on Dark Angels before going to a cool army.

So I caved an will be picking up the assault box. If I'm right, with every terminator I have from alpha generation to this box, I will be the owner of a full company of terminators. Who says decades of hobbying doesn't have it's rewards?

Belial is unchanged in points - he is not really a good pick for competitive play.
If those Deathwing Knights points stay from the preview and the Maces are the same as now then it will be a unit for the shelf only. It may also be that Deathwing Command Squads go to Legends.
So it’s some downsides!
Still, the Turn 1 deep strike for one unit with the Character enhancement looks good. The wound buff is nice, if a little situational.
It is clear that power creep is not a thing yet!

As a Deathwing player since 1996 I am still excited by the box set and I will wait and see for the full reveals. Deathwing were so amazing for most of 9th I guess we have to spend our time in the penalty box. CSM spent how many years in the penalty box between 3.5 and now?

So... Belial is 10 points less than a basic "Sorcerer" for the Thousand Sons, not an exalted, just a basic sorcerer...And a full 30 points cheaper than the Sorcerer In Terminator armor.
I hope to hell he gets a point hike, or there's some serious reductions in the Sons codex, becuse that's some crap...

Belial’s buff to his attached unit is Precision Strikes on Critical Hits. That is it.
The Sorcerer in Terminator Armour grants Lethal Hits and has better shooting. I would rather have Lethal Hits. He also gives reroll 1s - Belial grants nothing like that. To be fair, Oath of Moment is a consideration.
Belial is a dueler in a game with few duels. There is a reason we don’t see him on the tabletop. I tried for a bit, but the stock Terminator Captain is better. J

So the previews are up. Great models. Not great rules.
Folks who hated facing my Deathwing Knights can rejoice! They got worse and went up in points. Deathwing Command Squad gone.
Unforgiven Taskforce is still very “meh.”
It’s early, but I feel that the book might have been written and sent to the printers before Edition launch.

oof... watched the auspex tactics review... that's a rough one if all of that is correct.
nerfs and sidegrades all over the place.
I have no idea why deathwing termies can't take an assault loadout - that makes zero sense in my head!

So my own list may be fairly unchanged, since i’ve been running Gladius with Azrael and a small unit of Deathwing Knights. I ran the Knights with the new profile today (so worse maces) but current MFM points. They still do what I ask of them - bully the enemy back-field. Maybe because I was so sad about them they killed two Armigers and lived through both games. Love those little guys.
I was really hoping they were going to make the Dark Angels Detachments worth taking. Early days, but I just don’t see it. There is a fun combo in the Deathwing one that exploits keywords through character attachments to Hellblasters. Might be cool, but I expect an errata.
Oh well. Gladius it is.

My issue with some of this is that Dark angels have these side grades based on some points but so far we have had nid and admech codex drop and have printed points updated in the balance within a week. All the "point leaks" from the index don't mean much if the data slate on the 25th changes them.

My issue with some of this is that Dark angels have these side grades based on some points but so far we have had nid and admech codex drop and have printed points updated in the balance within a week. All the "point leaks" from the index don't mean much if the data slate on the 25th changes them. The points in the Codex are not really meaningful, but most of the concerns that Dark Angels players have with the Codex reveal/preview are not related to points, nor can points really fix those concerns. We lost some important units: Deathwing Command Squad, Ravonwing Talonmaster and Deathwing Strikemaster. No amount of points cuts to a unit can fix it being removed from the game. Then we had datasheet changes that most certainly nerf units. The changes in unit size and weapon profile for the Deathwing Knights are a big hit regardless of points. I suppose these nerfs could be somewhat mitigated by deep points cuts from the current MFM, but they would have to be deep indeed. Let's say they stay the same as the current MFM instead of the points in the new Codex. Still a major nerf. I suppose there might be a points level where the Landspeeder Vengeance becomes playable, but how likely is that? It could be that the Forgiven Fallen dudes could be playable if their points are quite low, so there is that. It seems like the designers feel that AP-1 in melee is useful? I am not sure how points will fix the Unforgiven Task Force as a detachment? A detachment built around being Battle Shocked cannot be fixed by points. Having said all that, the Deathwing detachment might have some play in it. The Ravenwing one may be a good detachment for non-Ravenwing armies due to the core detachment ability. The strats would be useless, but some builds based on non-mounted firepower will like it. This feels like a Codex written by people who were in the middle of 9th Ed?
