I hope to see a separate Kroot book, so I don't have to actually buy the Tau Codex in order to run them... Because those Kroot make me hopeful for an entire Kroot army.

Says in the article that it is a detachment in the new tau book. In addition, the new tau codex will be released in the kroot box, so chances are slim to non for a standalone.

One of the main reasons I went for tau originally was because I wanted to play the mixed alien races faction. Then it turned into "oops all mechs". So glad they are getting back to their kroots.

Never been a Tau fan (respect that many love them) but have always had a soft spot in my heart for the Kroot.
Variety is good!

I found it was hard to find kroot. You could never have enough. And the Krootox never fit well together. The new sculpts look great. Right now I’d love to run an all out kroot carnivore list.
My wallet isn’t liking the new year.
It and I haven’t had that conversation yet though.
Right now kroot are missing a few things. So hopefully this will fill in some gaps.

Honestly if kroot final get a real place in Tau and move away from this whimpy t3 ultra cheap utility units and into the 7 foot murder chickens they are, you could do very minor changes to tau and they become both internally and externally balanced.
I'd be happy to pay for something closer to a base ork cost if I had similar stats.
Kroot now - 60 pts/10 with t3, 6+ save, 2x S4 0 d1 attacks , stealth and scout
Kroot hopefully- 85-90 pts/10 with T4, 5+ save, 3x S4 -1 d1, stealth ,lose scout.
They become an honest melee unit, they have a conditional FnP and can slap stuff and hold the line for tau. They aren't just a speed bump but are an actual combat or counter charge unit.
Give the calvary something similar to the orks hogs in the 25 pts range with a bunch of S5/6 attacks on a less tough T5/6 body and you have a real tau front line.
Finally remove CiBs from normal crisis and give plasma back the 30" rapid fire.
Minor adjustments to internal balance and speed up the spotter vs shooter mechanic and you have a good codex
