Since we're wargamers, figured some of you play Civilization.
I have Civilization IV, but V looks amazing. If there are enough people who play here, a campaign via email (or however they're doing it in V) would be awesome.

Civ is one of my favorite games... I'm definitely buying V when it comes out!

I loved Civ 1-3 but did not like Civ 4 at all - I think the graphics really screwed with my mind. I'll wait and see what Civ 5 looks like before committing any coin.

This comes out in two weeks. I propose an offline "Make a turn when you can (use email)" game going for Kingston Warhammer players Would end up quite epic; AI makes the turn for you when you forget / are too busy. Turn frequency could be four times daily, twice daily or once daily. I like four times, even though I work full time; just make sure you set up the AI to do what you want it to. Anyone had any games like this run before? I think it would even work with every 4 hours / turn ... altho it would get a little sneaky near the end with someone logging in at 3am to make their move to crush everyone in a mid-night battle lol

...nope, between the Island of blood release, 8th ed big rulebook, getting a warmachine army, starcraft II and King-Con, I haven't gotten out of the doghouse enough yet to risk it!

i picked it up, there are a few things i dislike about the multiplayer.. (Single player is amazing)
Multiplayer has no animations, and all movement is real time. No option for turn-based play, nor email play. Ugh.
Hope they fix that.

....is it different enough from IV to actually warrant the purchase? ....how about a review???

well I managed to acquire a copy of the game and have played it...
...I do like it... graphics are much improved, city states are a cool edition... not really sure on the removal of the religion aspect and the change in civics... (I had liked that in IV, as it added a new dimension to the game from III)
the diplomacy is cool too... AI seems changed from IV to be more dynamic... the other nations will actually send little "comments" to you when you pick on other smaller nations... basically calling you a bully... you can either "bite" and sour your relationships by arguing or just blow it off... but you don't have an option to explain yourself... which is kinda funny how it plays out...
faster play, yet they've kind of slowed down the advancement a bit, and less micromanaging...
really like how you're not forced to attend to whatever the computer says now... (that used to be annoying) stuff pops up in a menu and you deal with it when you want to now... much better
also no more "stacking" units... you get one unit per hex (oh yeah, it's hexes now instead of squares)... which makes battles less one sided...
I'm liking it... very fun.... and still alot of "just one more turn".....

I've noticed you can't trade tech's anymore, I have mixed feelings about it. On one hand, I can have gunpowder and not be forced to trade it... on the other hand, the enemy could have gunpowder and not be able to force it out of him.
I think the dominant players will focus on Science research.

I do like the research agreement though, where you an another nation both research a tech and give it to one another (effectively double researching!)
