Okay,
a couple of people have suggested we keep track of tournament rankings/records of those who participate in local tournies....
I'm not opposed to this idea, but would like to open up the floor as to suggestions on what this would look like... what we would keep track of... how this would be displayed / accessed etc.
do we keep track of everyone's scores every tournament? do we separate game systems? how do we track this info? how do we display this info? do we want to do this?
this would be a large ongoing project - if only one or two people want to do this, I'm not sure if this will fly - if it's a general consensus that we want this, then lets' figure out the best way how

From what I've seen, most people want to know who won the prizes, more so than where they individually ranked.
Also, with Nexus keeping track on overall points (or at least I assumed that's what they were doing after the tagteam scores were posted as they came in) for each tournament and ongoing totals, I think a thread that just lists the winners (ie: Overall, Best Gen, Best Sport, etc) would be nice for our forum.
I'd even suggest it be a locked thread that only the moderators could access just to post the names of the winners after each tournament.

That could work.
I know personally I don't want to make total scores "open access". Posting who won which award is fine, and quite simple. If demand was there I could even see a match by match tracker, but I think that your actual scores, particularly soft scores should be hidden. Most people can recall who they played, and I think it could lead to some bad feelings we don't want if such scores became public knowledge.

part of my wondering about what should be tracked, as opposed to what "could" be - which is conceivably everything....
I believe one of the earlier proposals was that a tourney ranking system be developed, which has some positives: (nice to be known as one of the top players of a region, helps to designate first round matchups in tournies rather than just randomly assigning the #1 ranked to the #63rd and hoping it'll be a fair match!)
however I see some downfalls as well - possibly encouraging WAAC, having skewed or inaccuarate results (how many tournies would it take to actually get a balanced result?), possibly causing hard feelings if all scores were disclosed, being difficult to track (which tournies are included, which are not? if it's only those at Nexus - isn't that accurate is it? lots more area tournies going on)
how wide of a catchment area we talking?
etc. etc. etc.
but in efforts to address each and every suggestion in some fashion (at least by acknowledging the possibility) thought we'd open this can of worms and let everyone have their say!

For me, I'm not interest in a ranking system for tournament. I'm very competitve but I don't see the point of doing ranking in tournament. Every tournament is different so it's not really representative. It's nice to know who won what like best general overall painting etc...

seems like we have people for or against the idea.... while I am not promoting or detracting from this idea... I want to make sure it gets it's air time...
in the interest of democracy - time to add a poll!!!!!

yes... Nexus already tracks this.... however once the tourney is no longer on their upcoming events section, I'm not sure it can be accessed later....
Oh and if you're voting in the poll... please help us out by stating some of your opinions too if you haven't already - just so we get as full a discussion as we can about this....

Ahh true. and i personally don't care if people see my scores and such. Now i can understand why people might not want others to know and such. I voted for all scores cause i don't mind other. Now if someone didn't them posted i guess they could ask you to not do it before hand and you could put a * beside it or something. I was just asking about the nexus thing cause since its already up even if for a short period of time why would people care if its up again it has already been seen by anyone who wanted to check

its imposible to rank the "best player",(matt ;D). posting new turny results would be fairly easy i guess but getting all the old ones would be cinda hard.

I actually have a TON of the old results kicking around my computer, and I believe a bunch of them are saved at Nexus.
I'm really going to re-iterate that I don't feel comfortable posting all scores. The actual 1st to Last in Generalship or overall maybe, but I think it's just asking for problems to post up "Jim gave Steve a 2 on Sportsmanship in game 3" just opens up a can of worms that would be really hard to close back up.
In terms of a ranking system overall, I think that as an "over time" thing it just isn't worth it, especially given the wacky nature of some of our events. If we wanted the whole community to become WAAC (win at all costs), then perhaps, but I don't think many would enjoy that. I do agree that showing who won each tourney would be nice for posterity, but that's about as far as I would go.

Well I'll say right now after some thought, that we won't be posting sportsmanship & other soft scores here with respect to you got X in sports game one, Y game two etc..... that's just asking for trouble...
I have my own thoughts as to what I think should be done of course.... but as this is a community forum I wanted to give the earlier suggestions sufficient airtime, and certainly my opinion is just one opinion here....
