While it ultimately seemed to cancel itself out results wise, I can't get over how much I hate that random turn order mechanic. Feels like it makes planning ahead tactically horribly impossible.
Is it commonly used in AoS games, or is it one of those things that gets ignored by most communities?

It does make things difficult sometimes. We are just starting to use it here I think as its commonly used at tournaments, as the official way to do things. I had a game where my warlord just sat for two back to back turns in the middle of the board, getting shot at, spells cast at, and ultimately charged at by everything. Once everything is engaged it doesn't matter so much, but if you are trying to avoid close combat by shooting things it can really screw you over.

I'm not a fan of the double turn... but in this game it turned around so many times it worked itself out. Up until this game, every time it's happened to me (either for myself or my opponent) it turned a tactical game into largely a coin toss... and really didn't feel good no matter what end of the coin you were on... but some people like it so there's that. I personally wouldn't run a tournament with that rule in it though. It's not really balanced in my mind... but to each their own
