Just an FYI for people using the trade forums here, which have always been a rather popular spot on the site. I normally don't weigh in on these things, but a few things have been brought to my attention recently that I figure it's my job to say something.
- If you're trading items on the boards, please be aware that Nexus staff are not there to facilitate your trades. Especially given these are sometimes items that are sold in the store, third party trading should not be happening relying on the staff to be the go-between. If you're leaving some free bits for someone that's different, and I'm sure they'll be super friendly and helpful as always, but let's not put them in an awkward spot k?
- If you are listing items on the trade board, please be aware that it is expected that you are not listing items which are near retail or in some recent cases even ABOVE retail price. People are generally expecting to be buying used items, so frankly aren't going to pay retail when they can just get it at nexus brand new. If you have a stellar golden daemon painted army then sure thing, you are free to ask whatever you want / the market will bear. My worry is that given the amount of new players that are in the community over the last year, that someone could be taken advantage of without knowing it due to trusting the community. Also please be aware that for the most part, no one who plays regularly ever picks these trades up that are overcosted, and at times will publicly post disparaging remarks about it, which just leads to hard feelings everywhere.
- Primarily the trade section is a service to the local community, but it's in no way competition for Nexus' business. We support our local FLGS 100%. They have an amazing space that is free for us to use, and is miles ahead of most of the other stores out there. (check out an official GW store if you want to be really sad about what they offer for play space!) Nexus does not charge for table space (like others do) and our tourney fees are lower than anywhere else I've seen. As an example, most two day tournies in Ontario charge upwards of $100 or more entry fee. Nexus charges less than half of that for our big tournies, and it all gets rolled into prize support. Nexus is an amazing support to our community, and it needs to go both ways. Support your local FLGS!
- 3d printed models of actual GW kits sold at Nexus are not permitted on the trade forum. One off custom characters, bits etc. are not an issue, but if it's sold at Nexus, you cannot make a 3d copy of a kit and sell it on here. Just completely not fair to our local FLGS! Anyone knowingly passing off 3D printed models as the real deal on our trade forum will be banned.
-I would highly recommend that if you see a trade up on the board, do your research. I'm not going to pull things off of the trade boards so at the end of the day, if you get a bad deal, well the onus is kind of on you to make sure you're aware of what is going on. If you are the victim of unscrupulous behaviour however, or find out that items are stolen (as has occurred previously where armies are taken) we are here to support you 100%.
