So apparently GW is now pushing their upcoming 40k Apocalypse box set. Including a bunch of 'special' movement trays for 20mm, 32mm and 40mm bases (that are no doubt highly over-cost). Think I'd just pay somebody around here with a 3d printer for that sort of thing instead. Probably half the cost and better final product.
Though they do say that the datasheets for units in Apoc will be available for free downloads at launch so 'you’ll be able to start playing straight away'. However the fact that Apoc has it's own set of rules along with special 'command assets' cards, orders etc, punches some holes in that notion.
As a 'bonus' they're also going to be selling (in limited numbers so you must buy them now) detachment boxes.
I can't say if the included unit combinations are good or not (for whatever price they're going to be set at) but going by the Necrons (6 Tomb Blades, 6 Wraiths, a Doomsday/Ghost Ark, and a Cryptek) I'm currently going 'meh'.

Tau box is nice. 6 crisis suits a commander and a riptide. I am actually more intrigued by the movement trays. But that might have to do with lingering Club Champs memories and a desire not to move 150 Immortals and 250+ Warriors by hand...
Looking forward to the box set.

Current story for the detachment boxes seem to be 170 US dollars each while the game box itself is 100.

Going by the currency converter on Google, 170 usd comes to about 228 cdn. Shame, I had hoped it would be around 200 like the battlefield box over the holidays.

Assuming they're all that price you're saving about 60$ for the Knights and ~70 for the Guard if I crunched the numbers right. Haven't checked the others but I can see a similar level of discount. Of course this isn't including sales tax etc if you're buying each model separately.

True. Although, I just did some searching, and it seems the price of the Battleforce boxes were also 170 USD, but they had only cost us 200 CDN each. That gives me some hope that these will be priced at $200 as well.

Gotta love those bargain boxes (particularly when they really ARE a bargain). Mind you, I'm many projects behind on building and even further behind on painting. Funny how my wallet itches when a good deal is out there though.
