I have a question on allegiance abilities. In our gaming environment is it standard to use allegiance abilities or is it something that only gets used sometimes (like in the last AOS tournament)? I'm assuming we use it all the time as standard but want to be sure.

allegiance abilities are an all the time thing... what we've not had much play with is the extra realm stuff (ie: your army is from the realm of light for example and takes spells and artefacts from that realm in addition to all their other stuff)

I asked because I was looking at the Dispossessed Grudgebound War Throng (Battalion) from the Grand Alliance Order book. If I made a Grudgebound War Throng I get 2 bonuses: one also comes with allegiance abilities as a battle trait. The other is nice (re-roll all hit rolls of 1 for models of the Grudgebound War Throng. The problem is that with allegiance abilities the other battle trait also allows you to pick a grudge for re-rolls of hit rolls of 1 but for spec units/types so the War Throng ability makes the battle trait Grudgebound useless/pointless. It also makes one of the command traits pointless.
The point is it seems the War Throng is kind of pointless since you ahve to take so many units and can get most of the abilities thru allegiance abilities/

yep, so why pay for the battalion if you can just get the same benefit from allegiance abilities?
