The dangers of blast weapons honestly will depend on which faction you're facing and the primary targets of said blast weapons. For some there won't be that much difference between 8th and 9th. For others? One second your hordes are there, the next you're taking them all off the table from the results of one shooting round.

The one saving grace is that space marines are on top looks like people think Death guard will be good harlie and custodes too. All of these list dont care about blasts at all to the point you might not bring many due to this...if that's the case some horde armies will do well since they aren't being countered

Did not realize objectives cannot be in terrain anymore. That's HUGE! It was so normal for the last several editions to plop your objectives down in a ruin or somewhere you could squat on them. Through I suspose we'll all just get used to plopping them right NEXT to the terrain features so you can be in the terrain and with 3"

Through I suspose we'll all just get used to plopping them right NEXT to the terrain features so you can be in the terrain and with 3" yes but then you have to remember, if you're INSIDE of obscuring terrain (ie: ruins) you do not benefit from being obscured and can be seen and targeted normally (albeit with a +1 save for occupying terrain). So there's a trade off... I really like it because it forces you to make tactical choices
