Well, looks like the app dropped today... without the army builder... and a $5/month sub for full features... Using the free section of the app is painful right now, not only because it's literally only the core rules, but the opening the core rules just opens an internal app web browser and opens the rules in GOOGLE DOCS.
That said, the value for the $5 looks good, for now. All 8th ed codex rules are included while valid, though again I'm sure its painful if everything is done through docs.google.com
Its pretty obvious why the app was delayed, but with 9th dropping tomorrow I guess they had no choice but to let it out.

Yeah, as a Software Engineer when you see an app announced as "delayed" 2-3 weeks before it's release date, you just KNOW the dev team is scrambling to get _something_ working at the last minute.
Like all brand-new software, it's either late, overbudget, or doesn't work well.
I expect it'll be really nice once it's actually released proper and has maybe ~6 months for the dev team to improve and get feedback from users. Google Docs doesn't bother me much, my life is run by the cloud these days.

$5 a month for an app that might, someday, "work as intended" or buy another core rule book.................. Or just turn my Orks in to a display-piece and let them collect dust and I stop stressing out over feeling like a loser for another edition... It is not like I am actually going to be /playing the damned game/ any time soon, anyway...
I'm just beating myself up to make myself feel bad, anymore.
This is all just one big reminder of another part of my life I have fucked up...

Yeah. I've seen a fair share of things pushed out the door because they "HAD" to ship it by a certain date. I had a feeling as soon as I heard the app release was pushed back they were gunna be scrambling.
Looking at most of the issues listed by Goonhammer, these are all things that are easy to fix thankfully. I suspect the developer team will be pulled into an emergency meeting and be working most of the weekend as soon as someone at GW headquarters reads that horrific review.
I'd expect if you installed the app, you'll see a couple updates pushed over the weekend or early next week and the larger feature issues like poor search-ability will get fixed sometime next week.
You'd be surprised how quickly a bunch of devs will solve the problems with an app on launch as soon as it's known the client isn't happy.

I’m a little annoyed that they ask you to subscribe and then find out that it is not available for iOS afterwards. Well. Tomorrow is going to be a fun day!

I'm not even upset that it's fairly awful at this point. At that price point, I'm happy for more reason to skip the subbed version.
If I can use the free version in future as a quick source for the core rules and new codex/supplements then great. I'm quite happy to keep supporting battlescribe for my list building needs.

Pretty much called that one.
Honestly, that's pretty solid timeline for fixing up the issues. I'm actually kind of impressed. If they actually hit those deadlines the app is gunna go from trash to treasure really quickly.

Minus the battle scribe.... yeah. I think it does. I e used from time to time. Is it worth 5$... not sure.
