Hey all, I haven't played since 6th edition, I was wondering if you can still take termies as a troop choice and field a full DW only army still?

Thanks for the reply macstern.
Looks like that means I can play games with just termies though, yeah? Is there a downfall to using vanguard over battlion detachments?

Thanks for the reply macstern. Looks like that means I can play games with just termies though, yeah? Is there a downfall to using vanguard over battlion detachments? Welcome back to the Rock! A Vanguard costs you 3 CP, so at 2000 points you are down to 9 CP at the start if you only take a Vanguard. A Battalion also costs 3 CP, but you get those refunded if your Warlord is in the Battalion. I’ve had some success with Deathwing this Edition, but you want CPs and you also want a couple of Ravenwing bike squadrons for the 6 inch teleport. As such, I’ve been running a Battalion with three Troops and then up to three Deathwing Squads as Elites (one of them Deathwing Knights). The Deathwing Ancient is also good with a Relic. Good hunting!

Welcome back!
9th is a seismic change from 6th in terms of army construction, but you will 100% be able to field and an all terminator force if that is what you want to do.
You'll probably want to do some reading up on how you construct an army in 9th ed, because a lot has changed. Command Points, Detachments, Stratagems, and Objective Secured are all new in the time since 6th (along with a dozen other things that came and went)
You might also be happy to know that the Allies table died a fiery and painful death.

I think I see at least three Deathwing Squads and some Characters plus the two Dreads. Five man DW squads with standard load-outs run you around 185 points each. You can have one heavy weapon for every five Terminators. How many Tactical Marines do you have? If you have 15 then it looks like a Battalion (three Squads of five) with a couple of Whirlwinds (Heavy Support) and Dreadnoughts (also Elites). I figure you could run a 1500 list give or take. If you you send or post an inventory I can hammer out a quick list for you to start with.

I believe I have the following looking at my stuff, my naming and stuff might be off, I'm looking at a spread sheet I made back in 2013 -
* Librarian with Terminator Armor. * The guy with the black shield was a count as Belial w/ TH/SS * DW Troop, CF/SB, x2 PF/SB, PF/AC, PWeapon/SB * DW Troop, CF/SB, x2 PF/SB, PF/AC, PWeapon/SB * DW Troop, CF/SB, x2 PF/SB, PF/AC, PWeapon/SB * DW Troop, CF/SB, x2 PF/SB, PF/AC, PWeapon/SB - (guy with white shoulder is an apothecary) * DW Assault Troops - 3x TH/SS + CML, 2x TLC (Count as CML, I don't think thats an official CML) * Dreadnought (PF, Las, ML, Plasma, AutoCannon? I think) * Dreadnought (PF, Las, ML, Plasma, AutoCannon? I think) * 5 bolter Space Marines - came from the paint kit that came out back then * Whirlwind * Rhino * Rhino
Edit: And an extra CF/SB, PF/AC, and PF/SB

Looking at that inventory list, yes everything is playable for sure.
One thing I did notice is that dreadnought autocannons are moved to Legends, which is sort of a final resting place for options or for which rules existed at one point or another, but the kit/model/etc never did. Legends is kind of like a "you can still use these and here's the rules for it, but we won't be updating these rules any further"
But other than that option everything else seems codex legal. We're about to get a new space marine codex drop in October that will include pretty much every chapter/legion/etc and the rules that have been leaked and confirmed by GW lead many of us to believe that things such as Terminators will be getting buffed in exchange for their points cost going up a bit. Which sounds like a win-win for you given that model list.
A sample rough list to get you started might look something like: ***
Vanguard Detachment (-3CP)
HQ: Belial - Warlord - Huntsman Librarian in Terminator Armour - Force Weapon, 2 psychic powers + Smite
Elites: Deathwing Ancient 5x Deathwing Knights - Maces and Storm Shields 10x Terminators - Storm Bolters and Powerfists, etc, 2x Cyclone Missile Launchers 10x Terminators - Storm Bolters and Powerfists, etc, 2x Cyclone Missile Launchers Venerable Dreadnought - Heavy Plasma Cannon, Fist and Storm Bolter/Heavy Flamer Venerable Dreadnought - Heavy Plasma Cannon, Fist and Storm Bolter/Heavy Flamer
Heavy Support : Whirlwind - Vengeance Launcher
You'll need/want to adjust this to fit what weapons, options, etc you have, but once you do it should be closing in on 2000 points which is the standard game size typically played these days.
If you want folks to take a gander at your list once you've got your feet wet, posting over in the army list section will usually yield helpful advice.
*** I don't play Dark Angels so I have no idea how to make a list for them, so while legal, I can't vouch for it's effectiveness.

It's been a while since I played and so far have had zero time for ninth. The list Frosty put together looks good. The only thing you need to add is 10 tactical (bolter) marines to make two more squads of troops. Since this is a mobility edition, work in your two Rhinos so they can get a move on. After that, consider a squad of Ravenwing for the aforementioned mobility and the teleport beacons to get your termies in nice and close to something juicy or on to those distant objectives. All in all, you have a pretty decent starting point for playing.

Yes, there have been a few of the SM chapters that are getting rolled into the main book. I believe with the new book is rumored that basically ALL (loyalist) space marine chapters are being rolled into the book. My guess as to why they are doing this is to help the problem of all the new releases being staggered across armies. For example, Vanilla Marines would get new unit X released, but Blood Angels, Dark Angels, Space Wolves, etc would all have to wait until their next book update to be able to use it. With one book, possibly with supplements/add-ons/extensions (cough cough the DLC model cough cough), it means all space marine variants can be updated in one go.

Sounds like I'll try and paint what I have and wait for the book before making any additions.

alright... here's a 2,000 point list using only the models you have listed above, including the few extra terminators you said you had... so this literally uses every model (and doesn't require ANY purchases) and can make a 2k list. (black shield guy would be your master in this). You start the game with 8 command points which is pretty reasonable, especially when the librarian can get back a command point a turn on a 5+ when you spend them. Between the key relic and the master of maneuver warlord trait, you should be able to make those charges and when you do they should hurt!
