www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bwr6RBQswp4Chapter Tactics had a really interesting piece today about playing at 500Pts/25Power and tournaments. It was really interesting. Apparently they have test-run several of these 500 point events and found that it allowed not only more players to play in general, but the games were also much much faster, and a whole 5 or 6 round event could be played in an afternoon, rather than a large multi-day event, with rounds taking as little as 45 to 60 minutes to complete. The smaller tables (30x44) and simpler missions also encouraged wide army diversity, apparently at one of the events that they had run had 24 players and 17 different factions represented across those players. If you missed the Combat Patrol announcement back in June, here's the link to the community page www.warhammer-community.com/2020/06/26/join-the-combat-patrolgw-homepage-post-1fw-homepage-post-3/

I’d be interested in a combat patrol tournament at some point. I think it would be a different style of game.

I'd be willing to consider it, if this was something people were interested in. I'm not a fan of power level beyond intro players learning the basics, and I certainly wouldn't be playing power level on a casual Saturday or any time outside of teaching someone brand new who was intimidated by listbuilding.
"The future of tournaments?"... ummm no... not at all... try telling the thousands of tournament players that they cannot bring 2k, only 500 points. Pretty sure that ain't happening. Fine for a one off, but certainly not the point level most people want tournies to be at. ie: even people locally do NOT want too many tournies under 2k. Crusade and Santa are the two exceptions.

Like Shannon I can see it as a one off. Interesting idea in and of itself and we should always be open to new formats. But most of the community have (or for newbies, will have) larger armies that provide 2k with extras to allow us options in our builds. So at some point I would definitely support giving it a try and see how the community reacts. Though with 2 annual lower point value tourneys using up the limited slots we have per year, making it even an annual event will probably be a hard sell.

I feel like the 500 pt tournament could be a cool format to weave in some of the crusade rules and stuff. Have a small game, everyone get 5 minutes to upgrade sort out new stuff then next game etc. I think most armies at 500 pts are gonna be pretty thin so can't see it becoming the main stay
