If you needed any reason to never glance their way again; I feel like this is it. What a bunch of crap.

So... they needed more ITC points so they organized a tournament during a pandemic and placed their top team in the lead then gave them a buy after teams dropped out. To ensure they got the most points.... seems like a good reason to never go to their tournaments.

America! Fuck yeah!
Okay... So they've been called out for having done this - is ITC going to let it slide or are they going respond to the situation and "fix" things? Is the issue just with this group, or is it endemic to ITC as a whole?
Should we care? Does this affect the Nexus community? Do you run even ITC?

Is the issue just with this group, or is it endemic to ITC as a whole? Should we care? Does this affect the Nexus community? Do you run even ITC? It's the reason Shannons as a TO steers VERY clear of ITC. In the past there were some attendees of tournaments here that were all abut the ITC and getting their points up and would push at every opportunity to have Nexus enter that format. Shannon firmly held ground on no ITC, and I feel like it's only served to weed that kind of WAAC mindset from our community. As for ITC calling them on it, who knows? It's a bunch of drama we don't have to deal with, and puts a worse name onto some already questionable characters that we happen to share a hobby with.

Yup, combine financial motivation with warhammer and suddenly you've got a recipe for WAAC.
Those coaching lessons cost a fortune, their premium coaching costs $177 USD a month. Just having them write an army list for you is $25USD! No wonder they are padding their numbers!
We're going to be one of the few communities who gets to sit back and eat popcorn while these fireworks go off, all thanks to Shannon's stalwart effort to keep ITC out of Kingston.

We had this same nonsense in the FOW community, with a dude in Sask running a 6 person tournament in his basement 2 days before the close of the season so that he would be the only person in Canada with 4 FOW tournament 1st place that year, thus automatically getting himself an invite to masters. The stupid thing with FOW rankings is that Battlefront has tied prize support (they offer write offs to the store) to reporting the events rankings to Battle Rankings.
Im glad the Kingston TO has kept 40k out of this kind of nonsense, it has been a great place to get back into 40k for me. I had wound up quitting 40k when I lived in NB due to the developing game scene that was driven by what would become ITC (and similar).

Well I've hosted a number of tournies which have had people who play ITC show up... sometimes in force. So sometimes it's about managing expectations as people who are used to that style of play (min/max) do not have a good time in a more relaxed format. Likewise the people who are used to how this community plays then get blindsided by someone running a list which is normal for that player, but steps on the throat of a more casual / friendly gamer.
Our community tournaments been a certain way for a while, and it doesn't suit everyone I know... which causes some people to go elsewhere to Toronto, Ottawa etc. for that more hardcore min/max experience. Likewise I've fielded a LOT of complaints from players outside our community for how our tournaments run, as well as a lot of complaints from people inside our community as well.
I run tournaments this way because I'd rather have the 80% of the people have fun that aren't going to make it into the top five for best general, because those are the people that come back over and over, and if they have a crappy time, they aren't coming back.
I am certainly not saying that the ITC format is bad in any way. It just can be rough for new players. If we have no new players, we don't have a community - ESPECIALLY when we're in the midst of a pandemic and people can't readily drop in at the back of Nexus and observe and go "I want to play THAT awesome game!"
I'd honestly rather be accused of being "too nice" or running a non-competitive list than be that guy no one wants to play. And I have run tournaments where new players got wrecked by hardcore players and had a terrible time and that was no fun for them either. So I try to be clear on expectations from the outset.
So as per the article. If you have to cheat, or put your finger on the scale in some way to be the "best" in your ITC rankings, you're not the best. You aren't even good. If your integrity is not worth more than a couple grand in ITC prize money, frankly that's just sad.

We have a nice little gaming oasis here in Kingston. All are welcome, but there is no incentive for ranking sharks to come.
