Beastgrave and Direchasm are the two starters in rotation.
There are some cool warbands on the way. Lizardmen, Vampires, Savage Orcs and a yet to be announced warband.

Thank you.
Would my warband from shadespire and from beastgrave still be good to go?

Yeah all the warbands and their faction cards are good to go. If we ever decided to get competitive then the universal cards are the ones that rotate out. So you would only be able to use the universal cards from the two latest sets.

Is it possible to get the earlier warbands that are from the first couple seasons? I was thinking the original Stormcast group since I have a Stormcast army. GW currently only has the team from Nightvault, which look like the models that came in the one smaller starter box for Soul Wars and I already have them assembled I think.
I regret not grabbing Shadespire when it was the Boxing Day deal at Nexus the one year.
I'm currently leaning towards the Daughters of Khaine team but still can't be sure if/when I could play, but at least they can also be run in a DoK army as well

You can order the season 1 and 2 models from GW's site, but they don't come with underworlds cards. Steelheart's Champions was the first stormcast team.
The shadespire boxes can still be found on ebay and the like, but they are now out of print. The first two starter warbands were at least released separately, so you might be able to find the warband without having to buy the whole starter box.
The second stormcast warband was the farstriders. Also season 1, but they are of the vanguard persuasion.

I wanted to clarify that you don't need (or rather can't use) the previous season universal cards to play and that you would have to buy Direchasm and which ever warband you wanted to get the cards you need to play the current seasons?

Are you asking if *you* need them? (Like, will you be able to play without the most recent version?) Or are you stating that people, in general, cannot use the previous editions and must buy the most recent versions?
In a friendly game, where folks are learning, I see no reason to impose restrictions (unless certain cards are just so obviously silly - but that comes down to the players at the table having a discussion on the matter) Treat it like a friendly game of Magic: The Gathering?

Yeah, there's no reason why you couldn't play with the old universals really, they should all work with the new version, some will just use slightly different wording for rules.
Eg Surge is now printed on the cards and referenced in the rules, when before they were just objectives that were scored immediately, rather than at the end of the round. Same deal, just more specific language.
GW's policy of only keeping the newest 2 seasons offical allows them to balance more easily and discontinue printing old sets of cards without leaving players at a disadvantage if they bought into the game late

Thanks, I'm completely on board with "Friendly MTG" style since that's the kind of game I'm interested in I guess I should have just asked if I "had" to have the old sets to have access to all the Universal cards of if the newest sets included everything you need minus the warband specific stuff

Friendly MTG style is 100% my vision for games as well.
I also have 6 warbands soon to be 8 after I get my direchasm box. So if anyone is interested in using any of them I'm more than happy to loan them out on game nights. All of my stuff is beastgraves and up.

Fuck... I'd love to be there to get in on this action! Not only would it motivate me to finish painting Rippa's Snarlfangs, but I would finally get a chance to get some games in with Zarbag's Gits, as well as Hrothgorn's Mantrappers.
Bought them for cool-factor, in 2019. Had fun painting Zarbag and Hrothgorn... Moving to Scarbadoodle-doo has nuked my motivation to paint, though...
