I'm looking at a collection of dwarf models and could build the following 2400 point list. Any good? or at least fun?
Runelord, Armour(Preservation,Stone), Talisman(Master Rune of Balance, Spellbreaking) - Anvil of Doom + 2 Anvil Guard,
Thane(BSB), Oathstone, Runic Banner (Master Rune of Grugni, Determination) - 20 Longbeards /FC (Stonebearers),
Dragon Slayer - 5 Giant Slayers
32 Warriors /FC
20 Thunderers /FC
20 Hammerers /FC
Cannon (Forging,Penetrating) + Engineer
Organ Gun
Flame Cannon
2398 point
thnks

Looks pretty solid...
I'd change up the cannon to straight forging + burning with no engineer... it saves you some points, while still being very reliable... also great for sniping hydras... I hate hydras....
otherwise looks good... I usually run an anvil, I'm a big fan of them!
for your BSB - the longbeards can just take the Grungi banner themselves, and you can give him some defensive items (1+ armor, rerolls, preservation is a nice combo) as with the oathstone he's going to have to challenge

Thanks, and good point on the BSB - I'll switch that up for sure. Glad this seems somewhat playable. Always better to jump into a new army with a half-decent list.

Well the forces of good need some help in the campaign (2400 point lists - thursday evenings regular WHFB night) so bring them on down for some action!

Unfortunately, on Thursdays I'm shuttling kids to soccer for the foreseeable future (summer over yet?)

Didn't the flame cannon get nerfed from the new rules and FAQ/errata? I haven't looked at dwarfs for awhile so I might be wrong.

I guess the Flame Cannon did lose a bit. It seems, you don't get the 12" range plus artillery die anymore, just the artillery die. Maybe I'll just swap it out for another cannon.

Actually, you may want to try a grudgethrower instead of a second cannon. A beefed up grudgethrower (S4 flaming) with a rune of accuracy is amazing at killing big monsters (S10 and d6 wounds with the center on the model) and it can help chew up a horde as well since close to 20 models are under the template. For your BSB, I would agree that he definitely needs protection as Jack Shrapnel has described. However, I would consider dropping the oath stone and the daemon slayers to fit in a dwarf lord with shield bearers to go with him in the unit of hammerers. This makes them immune to fear and terror and stubborn with a very choppy character in the unit. The runelord doesn't need anything other than mundane wpns/armour since his usefulness is ended if he ends up in combat. Other than that, looks like a solid list. Just make sure your shooters all have shields. This makes them decent light infantry once combat begins.

Can Dwarf anti-magic be too cheesy? For friendly play, how bad would a Runelord + Anvil + Mas rune of Balance along with a Runesmith be? Would be adding 4 Dispel Dice + swapping a Power die for a DD.
Is this typical for Dwarf lists or is it a little too much for casual play?

well not having any magic and no magic levels to add to dispel would put you at a dis advantage if you didnt take that stuff now wouldn't it.

Dwarves get a +2 to Dispel standard, so they at least have that, I was just wondering if what amounts to a swing of 6 Dispel Dice with this combo is considered 'too' much in a friendly game.

its matters, if you friend is going to bring a lot of magic for his "friendly list" or not. But how bad would you feel if you didnt bring the extra dice and you had a large ten plate purple sun run accross half your army and destroy them first turn lol
