So, I know Chapter Approved is basically the same as the Generals Handbook for AoS, in that it updates points and such. However, if I just use battlescribe for points (At least to start anyway), would I be able to get by without it, or are the missions in there, like they are with AoS?
I've also seen some books that are things like "War Zone Charadon". I think I've seen a few other War Zone books as well at the Nexus. Are these at all important, or are they more along the lines of being narrative campaigns?
I still plan to make a Chaos Marine force, eventually, but want to wait for their codex. In the meantime, I decided to start Deathwatch, and luckily enough, they do have a codex. And yes, I'm aware that Deathwatch aren't beginner friendly. I'm giving this information in case that changes if any of the Warzone or Chapter Approved books are needed.

I can't speak to the warzone book, as I haven't paid too much attention. My army is not involved, so no temptation to buy it.
In the past I have really liked the chapter approved books. I gave 2020 a pass because it released at the same time as the core rules and I didn't feel like I needed to buy more missions since I hadn't even played the first ones. As you say, points are found in army builder apps, so it seems silly to buy a $50 book just for a list of numbers.
However, I would point out something that may have slipped by many people's radar. This month's white dwarf comes with a booklet of updated points for all armies. A mini CA. If you wanted a print version of the latest points, you can get it there.

the chapter approved tournament pack is important if you want to play matched play. Not essential because the core rulebook has some missions and has the secondaries etc. (although attrition was updated in the mission pack to grind it down) but is the basis for all tournament play if that's your thing.
Not for the points though, which have been totally updated on the GW site for free (in the FAQ section)
I wouldn't say warzones are essential at all.... or even something the majority of players would care about picking up.

Alright. Thanks for the input. It seems I'll eventually get the chapter approved book, for the missions. I'll pass on the warzone books though, based on what you said.
