Well given how the new chapter approved lets me take a legion Brass Scorpion for the low low price of 1 CP now, figured it was only right to build a list that I can use it in.

I mean, it's a list!
I don't wanna be a downer, but while it does have some major threats to it for sure, I cannot see this scoring primary well. Feels like it was just built for a different era.

Feels like it was just built for a different era. challenge accepted! Am I missing something here? It looks like you've got 20 obsec bodies, 10 of which are guardsmen. It's honestly been a while since I've seen a chaos list.

yep, I have 20 obsec bodies only, and a backfield objective sitter in the havocs, which are there to draw fire as well as they have some anti-tank fire. . It's a melee offensive list that attempts to get in the opponent's backfield by turn two at the latest (scorpion turn one with the 3D6 Charge is quite possible). So it's a clear the opposing backfield and hold THEIR objectives. Very similar to my daemon lists that also have almost no obsec objective holders, and attempt to punch in hard to the opponent and either pin them there, or cause disruption. With these lists for primary I only plan on holding two objectives consistently every turn. The terminators drop in to clear out in a problem area. If the opponent attempts to skirt my melee by pushing into my zone and clear my objective sitters, than the termies drop in danger close - melta and charge. The spawn are there to flank and pick up low hanging fruit such as small units and other fast flankers to punch up where possible, but where not simply as a stall to the mobility. It's about trying to control the mid-board essentially (only way to combat oath of moment), however once I lose a few key pieces (by turn 3 certainly I will have lost the scorpion, maulerfiend and disco-lord I'm guessing) I've either boxed in the opponent and stalled their mobility or done not much. Is it my preferred list? Not really.. daemons do this style much better. But I wanted to get my scorpion in a list to play because it's been sitting on a shelf all painted up now for several years, only occasionally getting a one off game. The list would be better with a battalion of daemons and just eating the 3 CP for the scorpion. But I have all these unused csm models that I'm not using, so I either sell them or make a list and give them a try. But I don't think this is top tier, take on Drukhari and Admech kind of list... it's a crazy rush list with a giant overpriced monster. ie: just for fun. (gotta remember, I bought, built and painted an entire army of wraiths - I don't need to be competitive all the time )

Ah ok. That explanation and seeing the Daemons version is making it click. Much more brutal than initially perceived. I agree for sure the Daemon's version is clearly much stronger, but Abaddon and a Winged Prince are solid subs for a pair of GUOs.

yeah with the daemon version no abbadon or prince only because the bare minimum to make the scorpion / maulerfiend combo work is the disco-lord + master of possession.
To make the scorpion with T8 3+/4++ and hits on 2+ rerolling 1's and heals every turn. And the maulerfiend is a T7 version with the same.
I'm liking the word bearers for the disco-lord getting +1 wound, regenerate D3 and getting +1 invul (so getting a 3++ near the MOP). Added to that the MOP getting +1 to cast and an additional spell (another healing ability through sacrifice).
So I'm thinking of re-arranging the csm list - so keeping essentially the disco-lord + MOP + cultists+maulerfiend in a word bearers patrol and having the disco-lord be warlord due to that combo and needing to buff the scorpion.
Abbadon, the prince and the rest can be in a black legion detachment, as they don't necessarily need the word bearers legion buff (reroll failed morale? yay?) and abbadon needs to be in black legion (until he gets the supreme commander treatment that is)

I'm trying to figure out how the CSM version of the Maulerfiend escaped the 10 point hike that the Thousand Son version got smacked with... Hopefully it's a typo on one of the two sheets.

probably cuz the tsons version will get something the others don't. Kind of like how their daemon princes are just better, yet the inferior ones cost the same?

I thought that, but the 10 point increase only applies when you purchase Lasher Tendrils. I mean, touche' +1 WS is likely worth 10 point spend, it just feels odd why they haven't upped daemon engines CHaos wide, because DG engines got the boost as well.

probably because csm aren't getting a new book in some time... kind of like how they're stuck with 1 wound csm marines for a good long while.

If Lasher Tendrils are +10 points then I'll guess they got an improved profile. Maybe a slap and sweep profile, or double attacks, or something.
The Death Guard Defiler is 165 while the CSM one is 135, to account for the statline improvement.
