That is interesting, it's in opposition to the "jam a huge thing in the middle" that many boards see nowadays. The tournament pack was a good read as well. There's certainly some head scratchers in there, but overall it all looks pretty promising for their new take on running tournies.

I actually really like these terrain setups, I've been slowly building up terrain pieces for an at-home strike force sized board the past few months, and the whole "large, medium, small, barricades" mindset is what I've been using. Obviously my setups aren't as symmetrical (I want to still have a little imbalance to make choosing deployment zone relevant, but not a massive advantage)
I honestly think these terrain guideline templates are going to become a thing for sure. We'll end up with a few archtypes like "3 lanes", "king of the hill" or other such names for the templates as they become more common, especially with warhammer-at-home likely to remain a thing for the foreseeable future.

"If you are using rules for your army that are different from the colour scheme in which they are painted, you must have that army approved "
AND
" If you are going to have multiple different subfactions (ex. A Tyranid army with a Hive Fleet Kraken Detachment and a Hive Fleet Behemoth Detachment) within the same army and if any/all of them are different from the official color scheme, you must submit the army for approval"
.....ummm pardon?
win-path matching and multiple brackets require bigger tournies to be effective unfortunately. I would prefer this, but we have a hard enough time just matching everyone already, especially in a multiple round tournament.
And to call those dual terrain maps "varied" is pretty funny to me... both have four large obscuring pieces in the middle, with a slight variation to the placement of a couple mid-sized pieces.

Yeah, so my Thousand Sons would need 2 layers of approval, rofl. One for an "off color" and again for having multiple cults not differentiated by a different scheme.
I don't see what GW hopes to do with their terrain besides block any shooting army from ever being effective.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6x7ZWf63cgYet, hilariously, your heavily customized Knights army would likely fly while my Space Wolves would not, simply because I've used a single recast piece of an OOP forgeworld part.

yeah, these are at GW sponsored events though... which the vast majority of us will not really be attending.
the re-painting your entire detachment to official colour schemes every time you want to change up your list though... lol... sure thing GW
don't worry, I'm not going to implement this locally.

Unfortunately, I have a Dreamforge Left-Hand Mauler Claw on War so the whole army is a no-go despite having modelled and printed the other pieces on the other 3 knights.

Discussion on reddit seems to indicate they basically copy-pasted the event rules from Warhammer World, but rather blindly not understanding the difference between WHW and a tournament its rather amusing

I get this. im sure at a tournament of 200 players people would complain if I had 2 chapters of space marines but they were both painted the same. For simplicity reasons

Yet another reason to avoid large tournies, simplicity or not. I like our small events and reasonable TO. I do enough finagling at work.

Oh thank God! My harlies are all different colour schemes and I'd hate to have to re paint them one scheme.

Ya its interesting.
Like on one side you think we'll part of the hobby is convertions and such.
But you can also understand at a tournament where people are playing for money, people will try to get any advantage they can and such.
Makes sense for them but obviously not locally.

Not sure if this is the right thread but did anyone else here get the 2021 tournament book and if so did they not come with the black elastic band that keeps it close. also I don't like the sounds of all that painting to play.

I have the new chapter approved book.
It is a regular book style... sadly no more elastic, and even more frustrating, it isn't spiral bound.
not impressed that they made this change, because it no longer lays flat on the table!
