Ok, first off, I'll start by saying what WYSIWYG is for those that have never encountered the term before. "What You See Is What You Get". Basically, what the model physically has on it is the rules used in terms of equipment and weapons.
Now, I've never had a problem with telling people to just pretend that a model is equipped with something different from what is physically on it. However, as I very slowly build a 40K force, a thought occurred to me. Basically, tournaments.
I 'm fairly certain that some local tournaments have a rule of a minimum amount of the army has to be painted (At least, I'm pretty sire that Club Champs has that. I could be wrong though). Now I'm currently wondering though if there is a rule on WYSIWYG. If I joined a tournament, would I be allowed to say that a model has WEAPON B, despite clearly having WEAPON A on the model, or am I forced to follow the rule of WYSIWYG. If so, do all the local tournaments follow that rule, or just some?

club champs is the only tournament that requires fully painted.
WYSIWYG is a rule that is in the game for a purpose, as it's confusing to people to think a unit has boltguns and then half way through the game you say "oh it's actually a melta in there".
proxies and some counts as isn't a problem, but even my entire army of smurfs have the correct weapons on them.

Ok, thanks for letting me know. I'll do my best maintain WYSIWYG as best as I can.

a bit late on the reply but with me and my crisis suit's and them having so many war gear options I learned how to magnetize them so that it makes it easier on me and others when I'm play, yes you will have to paint more guns for your mini but magnetizing can be fairly easy to learn and do.
the nexus sell some pretty nice ones that aren't to expensive ( Primal horizon) and the other thing you will need is a some hobby hand drill (i got one off of amazon and works fine) and a flat pair of tweezers you can get a kit off of amazon that's pretty nice and cheap.
but when magnetizing the most important rule is to make sure your polarity is correct through out your model/army because if one of them is different from the rest you have to sperate it from the rest with it's war gear that works for it and it only,
once all is done least for me I feel like I have a more complete army with having less models than others because I don't have to buy more kit's to change what they have on them slightly I.e buying two riptides so one has a ion accelerator and another with a heavy burst cannon, i magnetize my so i can just swap them which in end saved me from buying another 130$ kit. so in end because of magnetizing I barely have to worry about the WYSIWYG rule at all.
