How does missions work for this tournament. I picked up the new chapter approved. Are we using those missions and everyone plays the same mission for each battle? I wasn’t there at last clubs.
Hey am trying to do some pre reading so I’m not stumbling with the mission at clubs

All five missions are going to be from new chapter approved. Have you settled on the missions? I'd love to know what to expect, for practice purposes.

I only have one model left to paint. Technically if I based the set that I'm currently finishing up they would pass (three colors) but just leaving like that would leave a bad taste in my mouth.

Have you settled on the missions? I'd love to know what to expect, for practice purposes. focusing on hold one missions... the hold twos slant scoring too much I might be in the minority on this but the current Nachumund mission breakdown is: 2 - hold 2/3/more ( 22% chance 2/9) 7 hold 1/2/more missions. (78% chance 7/9) I'd therefor assume that in a 5 mission tournament we would do 4x 1/2/more and 1x hold 2/3/more to keep with the rough percent chance of rolling the missions randomly ( 20% hold 2/3 and 80% hold 1/2.) I do think that almost all major tournament make sure to have a mix as it forces a more generalist approach to the list building. Also with the new progressive scoring aspect of the primary where you can score 3 points a turn for the bonus mission becomes more important if holding 2/3 is more difficult and can force a more tactical choice in the later turns when you may not have enough units to do everything. I understand that I am not the organizer, and will be happy just to play some 40k again but just wanted to share my two cents for the tournament structure.

that works in a win/loss tourney, which is primarily where you see this.
I have found that especially in a two day tourney, a single hold two mission at the wrong time can greatly impact the standings and someone's chance to do well. It's part of battlepoints as a scoring method vs. W/L
hold 2's tend to be much less points regardless of win/loss and you'll see a disparity even greater with those who cannot score primary as easily, or have less ability to do actions to shore up secondary points (ie: knights).
This is just my opinion of course. As an organizer the missions that people complain about the most are the hold 2's. Much more often I hear "I got screwed by the mission" on those ones.
When I play, I certainly don't care what mission I play. Doesn't bother me in the least. Just trying to make people happy.
If people want the hold 2's added, I can certainly do that. But I'd say in order to not mess with the variance of bad matchup + bad mission, it would need to be two missions of hold two if any.
I haven't printed the missions yet, so if someone has strong feelings either way, say so now.... well before Thursday anyways.

Of the two missions that are Domination; Data Scry Salvage, and Tide of Conviction. Im not particularly fond of either.
Tide of Conviction reminds me of the mission i made for underground Assault. In that your end game mission is to be in your opponent’s deployment zone. My army is not particularly fond of that, but does pose more thinking and planning which i like. And i do like the mission rule of SUPPLY LINES that you need to keep units in your deployment zone. I think of the two its the more fun one. And the deployment zones are standard dawn of war.
Data scry salvage on the other hand my army is not fond of either. So either case its a challenge.i like that in order to commit for the secondary you need to spread out your force in order to claim there objectives in the no mans land. Essentially claiming 4 objectives. That mgt be hard to do for some armies. Also the mission rule data terminals might get confusing in figuring out what of you opponents army has ob sec. i do like how the objectives are connected to your objective in your deployment zone.
Of the two. If you dont play the secondary for data scry salvage its just a normal game. But if you dont play the secondary for tide of Conviction, you are still substantially affected by the mission rules.
Over all of the two I think it would be easier for players to play Tide of Conviction. Even if its the harder one for me. I like a challenge.

The idea is that hold 2/3/more missions force armies to make sub-optimal plays in order to get more points. It forces static armies to move more, and force deathballs to break up, and punishes armies that aren't balancing damage vs obsec.

I remember the good old days when the missions for the club champs were destined by fate(or bribe) where a Titan would start at the end of a table, or where ambulls would burrow out from the ground or where the world it self would be a demon world that just wanted to have all the souls....... Those were the good old days

Those were the good old days Yes they were. And it was my favourite tourney to run because I could be creative and have fun with the missions. But frankly after ten years of complaints about how people were "screwed" by the missions and how much they hated it (not everyone of course, a vocal minority) I switched to book missions to essentially make the process less painful for me to manage day of.

I'll be bringing a large bag of old resin cast bases this weekend in case anyone is interested in grabbing any. There's 25mm, 100mm and lots of sizes in between in industrial wastes, some tyranid and lots of skulls.
It's part of a clean out, so just grab some and toss a coin or two.
