for those who like this sort of thing, this is a pretty cheap membership to get 3D print files for terrain on a subscription www.patreon.com/TxarliFactory(saw this on another thread I was reading, I don't own a 3D printer so cannot vouch for the final product)

If someone test printed one of these and they are good, looking at the WTC file for the WTC tournament terrain. Id be happy to kick in for the files and printing costs. I think if maybe we could get $10-15 from a few players and we could print out a few tables worth for Nexus? I'd even be happy to do a 5$ extra in tournament cost to make a terrain pool fund. Just a thought.

I'd be willing to kick in to that idea too... filling the club with good usable terrain is a great idea...
...if only we knew people with 3D printing machines, hmmmmm

I have a large folder of other 3d print terrian full-sized to scatter stuff files that I could try and put in a share/Google drive (most free some bought) if yall would be interested? when I was thinking about getting a 3d printer and resin printer, I was going to ask Mike if he would like me to print some pieces he thinks would be useful or finds interesting for the back room, sadly life made my money go elsewhere.

I like the idea of the 5$ At events to help pay for the terrain. Everyone uses it at events and would be cool to maybe see some cool themed tables.
I’d be willing to help paint it as well. Since we can’t really paint at nexus, we’d have to bring pieces home to paint. Maybe have people either work together or by themselves to paint up a table to match the mat.

I would also be happy to help paint up some terrain to a reasonable standard.

so for those with the proper equipment - what would we need for printing expenses for a project like this?
(primarily looking at ruins, LOS blockers, containers, etc. so larger things to get enough for a table?)

A lot of the cost will come down to 2 primary considerations. 1. How many overhangs there are (if any)? - More overhangs means more support material which significantly imcreases the print time on FDM prints 2. How large is the cross-section of the building/terrain feature? - Many models are made as a solid lump, slicing software will apply a shell thickness (that can be adjusted) then will fill the remaining pieces inside the solid building with infil material, it's a honeycomb pattern that holds everything up and can have the desnsity dialed up or down, standard is about 15-20%, but I've gone as low as 10% in the past. Pieces CAN be printed hollow, but that can't happen if there's a large flat surface on the top of the model.
I backed a kickstarter called Deathburg because I thought the concepts looked really cool, but actually printing them is going to be a nightmare because the modellers didn't think of the printing process when they designed the models. Overhangs, tiny spikes, etc., etc.
A spool of filament is anywhere from $20-40 plus tax, and the place I buy filament from has free shipping on orders over $125. A kilo of filament will do a good amount of printing so long as there's not a ton of support, and they're hollow or have a small enough cross section that they're not going to have mountains of infill going into them.
Step one would be to look at the pieces we as a community would want to print and determine ease of printing for each piece, then do some slicing to see how long and how much filament it would take to accomplish the pieces. The good part about it is that the model doesn't even have to be the right scale as we can scale up or down just about anything to make sure it's the "correct" size.

Well looking at the patreon, its 11$ CAD for that file which comes with multiple buildings and scatter terrain as well as objective markers which are a nice size. If a couple of us chip in a couple bucks to get that patreon pack and then have someone such as voodoo inspect the file to see if its feasible to print as he seems to have a lot of experience with printing. And then we can evaluate the cost of printing a table of terrain.
The more I look at the set, its looks good, loads of big LOS blocking terrain as good area terrain.

I definitely agree that terrain needs to be designed and built as a table-layout, especially these days where terrain matters soooooo much to the game.
When I've been designing the tables I've been building at home, I typically have been doing:
2 Large pieces (at least 10"x10" footprint, sometimes much larger) 4-8 medium pieces (usually around 4"x8" footprint) 2-4 small pieces or barricades (usually 2" deep and 4"-6" in length)
Additionally, you need to consider terrain height, because certain important keywords like Obscuring or Dense only work if terrain is at least a specific height (Obscuring requires 5" in height, and I believe Dense requires 3" in height?)
Now that said, I'm specifically trying to replicate GW US Open style table setups with high terrain density and essentially zero board-edge-to-board-edge shooting lanes. That is likely overkill for what we're trying to do here with just improving the general selection of terrain available at Nexus. However keeping these things in mind will help ensure we create the right pieces to have a great selection of terrain for years to come.

Here is what I have so far organized for STL files for terrain, there will be more and Ill be updating it hopefully everyone can access it if not let me know. if this doesn't work i have another file site i can use drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Z-Lk2f61aTlNOSZbK9vGgI1KULb6Yq7g?usp=sharingI have mostly all of it there, I can't find some other set's I have but there is one that's like a elven forest with tree top houses and stuff kind of like the Ewok/Wookiee village from starwars and a pretty nice medieval castle & village set, I know this is under the 40k section but i feel like some of the AoS people wouldn't mind getting some new stuff too, Ill keep looking through all my files but let me know if people are interested in those and i might try to find them online again.

I know literally nothing about 3d printing so am not much help here. I can contribute money to the project and I have an airbrush so can get most everything to a decent standard pretty quickly as long as it's not a ton of trim or something.
If someone who knows about this stuff could take a look at Taylor's Google link above and see what could work there, might be a good starting point? If more is needed I can just pay for the Patreon to grab those pieces too... $11 is nothing really... It's the printing/ painting that is the biggest expense (terrain can use a ton of paint, especially washes!)

I'm not the best/good airbrusher like Shannon or other's here yet but i too can also help on that front aswell and i have some big hand brushes i use on terrain aswell too.
