I mean, if you want sticker shock, all you need to do is look at the new releases. The Aeldari dice are $48 for 20. That's $2.40 per die. 5 space elfs with rocket launchers? $70.
That's ok, I'll still probably buy an Avatar when it comes out at what I'm sure will be $180 if the current trends hold.

Haha yeah, that is brutal. Honestly I haven't actually looked at any of the new eldar prices. I stopped thinking about new models as something I might actually buy when the Sisters line released.
I don't want new models, or resculpts, beyond upgrading from finecast, for any of the armies I collect. It would just push them beyond what I'm willing to pay. Kind of sad, because I always like seeing new sculpts. Just not for my toys, please.
Best case scenario is a new line of pretty new models, with a terrible book, and a bunch of discount boxes to drive down prices. I've managed to pick up a bunch of the new AoS slaanesh stuff on sprue for half price, thanks to box splitters and few people actually bidding on ebay.
I've accepted the fact that the new armies aren't for me, but I do wish the old ones weren't moving so quickly beyond my means.

I recommend box sets... that's where you can really reap some discounts, especially if you're able to find someone to split the contents.
We also have a pretty healthy trade forum here... you HAVE to be really careful there as well (not everyone is doing good deals or putting up current models) but if you do your research you can snag some really solid deals. Generally if it's not 40-60% off retail I'm not biting, but people can obviously ask whatever they want... kinda like ebay

I do love the box sets. Most (all?) of my armies mostly consist of units that came in start collectings, battleforces, or box set splits. Shore that up with whatever I can find a good deal on, and eventually I have an army's worth of minis.
And I definitely appreciate our local community and the trade forum. I have gotten more than a couple additions from the folks around here. Fortunately, not many people seem to post things for nearly retail price, and those that do don't seem to get much in the way of response. I might like your paint job, but I am just going to strip it, so I'm not paying a premium for more work on my end haha.
End of the day, this hobby isn't reaally for working class bums like myself, but I do what I can to participate as much as I'm able.

Its stupid - these prices just mean kids cant afford the game. Where will the game be in 20 years if the prices stay like this? dave if you want any pointers on recasters, hmu - I know a few good ones, though most are shut down from the war rn (lots in Ukraine and in Russia). Tau are really bad to get recasted as the decreased quality shows on their flat armour. Like 90% of my stuff is legit, but there are a few models (cough cough forgeworld) that I simply refuse to pay GW for, Especially since they started pulling fan content off youtube. Plus, OOP miniatures that are never coming back (Praetorian IG, for instance...).

I hadn't considered younger folk not being able to buy into he game due to price increases. That hurts the game long term if young blood doesn't get to come in, as if they have to wait to be older to be able to afford it, they may lose interest. And if they don't lose interest, I dread to think of what prices would be at that point.
