Hey there,
I'm confused on how re-rolls work in a few different scenarios, but the best example is the Jokaero Weaponsmith ability below.
Inconceivable Customisation: At the start of your Shooting phase, you can select one friendly <ORDO> unit within 3" of this model and roll one D6: apply the result from the table below to the selected unit until the end of the turn. A unit can be affected by more than one source of this ability (e.g. from multiple JOKAERO WEAPONSMITHS) in the same Shooting phase, but duplicated results will have no effect.
D6 Result 1-2 Augmented Targeting: When resolving an attack made by a model in this unit, you can re-roll the hit roll. 3-4 Augmented Penetration: When resolving an attack made by a model in this unit, you can re-roll the wound roll. 5-6 Total Augmentation: When resolving an attack made by a model in this unit, you can re-roll the hit roll and you can re-roll the wound roll.
So if the Jokaero uses his ability on a group of six acolytes, am I allowed to choose any of the dice to re-roll at my own discretion? Or can I only re-roll one die? If I re-roll, do I have to re-roll all of the dice at once that were rolled, including successful hits?
Does the word "roll" refer to all of the dice being thrown at that time, rather than individual dice rolls?
I guess I'm confused about the singular words. " when resolving AN attack you can re-roll the hit roll " - does this mean one attack, or is it whenever you attack that turn with that unit?

1 Attack = 1 Shot or 1 Melee by a weapon.
Effectively, because of the wording of this rule, you can choose to reroll _any_ of the dice, regardless of if they are a successful roll or a failed roll.
An example:
You apply Augmented Targeting, and roll six dice for the six models shooting attacks. You may reroll any of these to-hit dice at your will, regardless of the number rolled.
Effectively, Targetting gives "full" rerolls to all hit rolls, Penetration gives "full" rerolls to all wound rolls, and Total gives both of these effects.
Some abilities have specific wording that states "you may reroll failed hit rolls" in that case, you may only reroll dice showing values that would be unsuccessful based on the attacking model's weapon or ballistic skill.
Other abilities have specific wording like "this unit may reroll one hit roll", in that case, you may only reroll 1 die regardless of how many attacks the unit has.
The keys are usually this described by "any" or "one" for number of dice and then "failed" or "any" for what values those dice are showing.

The biggest hurdle to understanding is that GW has written the shooting/fighting rules in such a way that every single shot/attack is a discrete activity.
So an assault 4 gun technically makes 4 individual attacks that are all resolved independently.
When things refer to "an" attack they generally mean any instance.
If they intend to limit it to 1 they'll say "each time this unit is selected to shoot or fight it may reroll a single roll to hit"
