Hi everyone! I'm Sophia. I've somewhat recently started playing wargames just under 2 months ago, starting with X-Wing. I've been having a blast, and figured I should explore what else the genre has to offer. Obviously warhammer was at the top of the list. I picked up the core rulebook and have been reading through it here and there. I think I've got most of the basics down, and so far the game seems right up my alley. If anyone is interested in teaching/playing me please let me know. I don't have any models or anything as I just started, but if you'd be able to bring some units for me to play it would be really appreciated! Otherwise I think I'll be building a necron army (I really love their aesthetic and how they can just get back up after dying) and look forward to playing some of you then!

Welcome to the forum Sophia!
We can certainly arrange a game when you're available... I can bring you a necron army to try out given your interest in them.

Welcome! I'm hoping to learn how to play 40k as well! I'm moving over from Age of Sigmar, so hopefully we can learn some new rules together

I've got a pretty flexible schedule so just let me know what time you are thinking and most likely I'll be free then. Hope to see you soon!

What do you find the most different between the two? I don't know much about Age of Sigmar, but the skaven seem like a lot of fun. Maybe I'll get into that next. Maybe I'm wrong, but it feels like a lot of people here have been playing for a while, so having a couple games against someone a bit newer is definitely something I'd be interested in.

There's a big mix of players here with a lot of various experience from new players to vets.
Age of Sigmar is pretty similar to 40k but with a few big differences in that shooting is alot more rare so there's more melee, there's the double turn mechanic in AOS which is not in 40k. Biggest difference is in setting of course, sci Fi vs fantasy

Welcome! I can't really say anything that hasn't been said already, except to echo that we really do have a good local community that has a bunch of really good players that are fun to learn from. You'll be able to get your feet wet with some games, then start dialing up the difficulty as far as you like, as there's some really hard opponents here as well.
Last but not least, we're also BIG into the hobby side of stuff; so there's some gorgeous armies out there, and lots of help if you are stuck on an idea or technique.

Well Skaven and Necron are super cool, because theyre both so specific and unique! I find 40k to be substantially more intense, and hard core. From personal experience, Age of Sigmar has just been more laid back and forgiving. With AoS, once I learned the core rules (which were very basic) my army rules just fit into the already known set of rules I knew. But with 40k I'm overwhelmed with how many books are available, maybe not required, but why would they make so many books if I didn't need them. Core rules, Chapter approved, Space Marines AND a Death Watch book for one army. It's a lot of school work again. I have 6 AoS armies and 1 HUGE 40k one I don't understand 😅 so by all means i could bring In some options for you to try out age of sigmar!
