so as the title mostly explains I'm wanting to start shifting to Vallejo paints I know there is a massive compatibility chart on dakka forms but I found some issues with shade differences i.e Mephiston red = heavy red, I found that heavy red seems to be more in line with khorne red in terms of shade difference and im wonder if any one know if there is a better red to use that's closer to mephiston red's shade and other colours down below, as much fun it sounds to buy a bunch of paints and compare them I want to avoid spending money on colours i won't use so i can find that near perfect match. so if anyone has done this and could confirm what the colours are near shade colours it would be much appreciated and what would be a close airbrush color too. my other idea for the meph red (pallet and airbrush) was to buy a lighter red and mix in black or greys to slowly get it to that shade and I was wondering if any one has any paint mixing tips? imgur.com/clMZZ0X <- colour comparison Mephiston Red : / no's, Heavy red 141, Dawnstone Grey : Cold grey Abadon black : Khorne Red : Evil sunz scarlet : Warplock bronze :

So I don't know the vallejo colours very well, and can't offer any help with the first part.
As for the second, you'll want to be careful mixing black into red. It can very quickly get away from you and create a completely different shade than the one you wanted. Many black paints also contain more than just black pigment - blues and purples being the most common. It can be used to create some cool colours, but it may not be what you're after.
If I had to guess, I'd say mephiston red doesn't actually contain black pigment. It's probably a mix of red oxide (kind of a rusty red colour) and a brighter red to create the exact shade.

looking at my mephiston red and my vallejo reds, it appears to be between Gory red and Bloody red (game air line)
so mixing some bloody red into Gory red (which it's closest to but is a bit brighter) should get you there.
I would honestly go into nexus, take a pot of mephiston red, and hold it up to the vallejo reds on the shelf until you get the closest match possible by eye (or the closest two if you're really picky and want to mix the exact color) and go from there. Of course dried paint changes tone slightly... but this should get you close.
