I mean I guess it is the most CENTRAL location in terms of everyone having to travel 21-25 hrs by car (Vancouver/Toronto), has an international airport , and is probably CRAZY cheap for them to get deals on rental space to stay/play.
I can see why on paper it looks pretty solid but ya as a Canadian is does feel a little weird. I can't say for certain without doing some research but I'd assume a plane ticket to Winnipeg in Oct is pretty cheap too. ** looks like 260-400 for a round trip if you book meow.

Winnipeg actually has a pretty significant warhammer (and other) gaming community believe it or not.
I might look into this, we have family in the area that we haven't been able to go see since pre-pandemic.

Given that Winnipeg has the entire population of New Brunswick living in it, Im not remotely surprised they can muster a decent sized gaming crowd.

When i lived in Winnipeg the community was strong. And they have a awesome owner of their Games Workshop store. Sounds tempting.

The guys in Winnipeg are also the runners of the Astronomicon tournaments... which was a cross Canada tourney circuit that has switched to a VERY narrative focus.
Have gone about 3 times before they changed to narrative only... was a good group of guys and some AMAZING painters go to their tournies (as they not only frown on super competitive lists, but they outright keep them out).
It seems as though they haven't run an event since January 2020 though.
we also used to live in Winnipeg and have family there.... maybe we should make a trip - wife can visit... I can warhammer!
