I've been going through my various CSM things and trying to figure out how much of it can pull double duty for HH. I had no familiarity with the first version of the game, but I was pretty sure there was more to it than just tac squad vs tac squad and a bunch of sexy vehicles.
I have found a few reviews of the traitor book to give me an idea of what I can actually field, ahead of picking one up at nexus. I do hope there are lots of pretty pictures. I'm still not sure I'll ever actually get around to playing HH, but I like books.
I'd be playing as Emperor's Children, so I figure melee squads and noise marines would fit in well enough.
So far I have:
10 bolter marines
10 chainsword/pistol (despoilers?)
10 noise marines (kakaphoni)
Enough bodies and bits for 20 more foot marines.
10 raptors (assault marines, but the special weapons would have to be ignored, I think)
10 warptalons (could also be assault marines I guess)
2 sonic dreadnoughts (no idea if these would work for a HH dread)
2 rhinos
1 spartan (eventually, because I will have a big sexy tank)
I'm mostly confused when it comes to HQ's. I haven't figured out what they do, how they're different, or how many I'll probably want. That said I have a few characters that would probably work for something, and kitbashing something new is always fun.
I'll get some havocs to play with after the new start collecting becomes available, as well as more marines. I've also considered grabbing some special weapons to use the bodies I have for a support squad. Old CSM bodies aren't pretty, but they're at least easy to mag. Definitely have to figure out what the weapons actually do.
I guess that's about it. There are certainly some things I could put on the table. I've got the marine thing mostly covered, I think. No idea how this would shake out points wise, and I definitely don't have anything in the way of high strength attacks, but it might be a reasonable start if I find myself actually getting into this game.
Anyone else have thoughts on using the old stuff they have? Anyone else just generally confused on what comes after "ok, I've got some dudes with bolters"? Interested to see how other people are building lists beyond "this is what came in the starter box".
