Originally posted this in the wrong section of the forum, Sorry. I notice a lot of flaws after taking the picture, I also haven't attempted any edge highlights yet. I figured I would upload a picture before I butchered the model any further haha.
I'll get there. Never give up, Never surrender!

Looks great! I'm in the midst of painting my own first squad of chaos marines. Hope you're loving that trim as much as I am, haha.
My one suggestion would be to judge the model in your hand, and try not to worry about the flaws that tend to get magnified in the photos. Trying to take a flattering picture is a whole new level of the hobby. Some of us (me) have spent years failing to master that one.
Welcome to the hobby! Once you're ready to get a learning game in, I guarantee you wont have trouble finding one. Lots of guys around here are willing to run new players through a small points match to get their feet wet.

I think you need to look up the definition of "butchered". I see a nicely turned out piece that may or may not (depending on your perspective) have a few flaws but is a solid base for additional detailing. Keep going as I think you are well on your way to producing a good miniature you will be proud to field.

I think that looks pretty solid to me!
We're our own worst critic, don't judge yourself too harshly. You're getting a nice result right out the gate with your painting...be proud!

Model looks pretty good to me I don't see any really standing out stuff and the only way to really butcher an model is to not thin down your paints or glob paint on your model, if you want some examples of my first minis I don't mind showing ya.

I really appreciate the kind words from everyone. Keeps me inspired to keep trucking. Also I would love to see the first mini's you painted, I have some Tyranids I tried painting back in early/mid 2000's. Thought I ruined them and put them away. Only learning recently I can strip the paint so Im excited to give those a go again. Maybe I'll upload a pic of them also and you can see what I started with years ago.

Here we go. I pulled out my Tyranids and was trying to figure out Battlescribe. I looked up my battleforce box and codex and haev learned its from 4th gen I believe. So I've had them awhile. In the pic I'm going to upload you can see my many attempts to revisit painting and learn. imgur.com/a/7a5g87x

http://instagram.com/p/CMWjiuzDpKh Here they are but ypu can't see the build up to much due to lack of close ups. for stripping I highly recommend getting some tupperware from the dollartree/dollarstore, toothbrushes and using simple green. when I strip I tend to submerge the mini in the Tupperware and put the lid on for 15-24 hrs and I scrub it and if all the paint isn't off I put it back in for another 15-24 hrs and if I got all of the paint off or as much as I can, I wash/scrub it with some dish soap and water to get any oils or simple green off so that before I prime it won't flake off.

They look awesome. I seen people talk online about simple green, but my wife suggested just using plain rubbing alcohol because that is what I had on hand and I had okay results. There was quite a bit of elbow grease involved and some of the tyranids are really hard to get at the ribs.
I'm also in need of some other advice. I really want to get into nexus to watch/learn/play but unfortunately my wife and I help run a business that's hours match up with nexus almost perfectly. There is a few nights of the week where we can just make it into town before nexus closes. I have some health issues and can't drive so my schedule revolves around my wife and our business hours.
I don't really know what kind of advice I am seeking. Just feel rather defeated, I want into the community and you all seem so nice and welcoming. I would like to make some friends and get to roll the dice and have some laughs. Right now I'm going to keep painting. Still have all my Tyranids and Chaos marines to paint.

do you have any days off at all?
tables are available anytime at Nexus, but really need a few hours to run through a game.

Yeah. I technically have a couple days off, but they are alternate to what my wife works, Only day she can do anything is Monday afternoon. I guess I was basing it off of, kingstonnexus.ca/events/ . Looking at that calendar, There just is no way to get into town at 10am. Saturdays one of our busiest days too so I can't ask her to just run me into town and pick me up later. I also don't do social media or anything and have clue how things work usually. I was assuming you had to play Warhammer on Warhammer days otherwise you have to play elsewhere with friends. I guess a safe place to start is, How does Nexus work? I kind of assumed you had be part of a club to use space.

Most days and nights you can show up and use a table it's recommended to call ahead of time. but if I remember correctly
Mondays are non-organized day,
Tuesdays are boardgames nights
Wensdays are magic booter drafts,
Thursdays are non-organized,
Fridays are Friday night magic,
Saturdays are warhammer,
Sundays are paint and I belive D&D now
So on the days that have stuff organized like Friday night magic I would call to make sure if there is an table available because that night tends to be packed fairly often and only times you won't get tables most likely are tournament days/nights but all warhammer fantasy or 40k tournaments are posted here on the forums

I totally assumed and misunderstood how it all worked. So I arrange a match and call ahead. Monday afternoon may be my only day but is still way better then no days. Is there a fee or anything associated with going to the back? I know a mask is required and that is about it.
If I'm setting up for my first ever game. Is there anything I'm missing? I have two roughly 1k armies, battlescribe and the core rules. I know I need to pick up dice but I'm not really sure how many to grab, I read between 30-50 and I don't even have anything close to that.
Thanks for helping me understand how nexus works a little better. and sorry if I came across whiny, just trying to figure it all out.

The gaming space, and all the terrain is totally free to use, Nexus is great like that.
As far as dice go, what I did when I first started (not all that long ago) was buy one of the chessex cubes of d6's at the store for rolling, and then a few loose d12's and d20's for wound counters. I used a few random 6's I already had for other markers. The chessex cube dice all look the same, and by using other colours as markers/wound counters I didn't have to worry about mixing them up.
Also, don't forget a tape measure!
So just to clarify a bit, one of those cubes holds 20 dice. I'm not sure what army you will be playing, but I rarely need more than that. If I have a unit that has 30 attacks, I roll the first 20, and by the time I remove failed hits and wounds, I'll have enough dice back in my hand to roll the last 10. If you find you're struggling a bit, you can always grab a second cube later.
