GW is an odd employer (coming from my own personal experience).
I'll keep my own history with them off the record, but I didn't enjoy how they kept trying to get me spend the majority of my pay cheque back into the store every payday.
Something like this doesn't surprise me.
When my Daemonhunters army was on display at the store the regional manager took a look at it and instantly called over my manager. They had a hushed conversation over something in my army that the regional manager was obviously upset about. My manager talked to him a bit more and things seemed settled.
After the regional manager left the store, I asked my manager what the problem had been. He told me that the regional manager was upset my army contained a "non-GW" model and that such a thing needed to be removed immediately. When I asked my manager which model had been the problem he pointed to one of my Death Cult Assassins. I didn't use the standard GW DC Assassins but instead other models from other GW ranges. The particular model in question was an Amazon model from the Mordheim range. My manager knew this which is why nothing came of the incident, but what does that say about the company when even the Regional Manager doesn't recognize the company's own product...

Just goes to show why I wouldn't want to work for them... But bad practice being held over certain people in a company doesn't necessarily mean that's the case in every GW store. Regional managers not being held responsible to memorize every possible orientation of every miniature is understandable. And in the guys' post about his being fired for what he did... honestly he shouldn't have been so forth-coming as to why he was there. Being an employee I wouldn't even mention having purchased things from the company I work for over Ebay, even if they're out of print. That's just bad business practice.
But yes, it does sound like quite a few bugs in their system as a company- but having worked for as many as I have, I've found more companies that have issues in employment then those which don't.

You do realize having a non-GW model in a GW store at that time would have gotten me fired right? That probably still holds true but who knows. What I was getting at, is that if my own manager had been unfamiliar with the model, I would have had to prove its veracity or been out of a job.
These were the days when LOTR was still being hyped as Return of the King was about to hit theatres and it was even against the rules to have LOTR models on the same shelf or TABLE as anything else GW. If a store was caught mixing LOTR models with any other GW product they would be fined by New Line. New Line had GW over the table.
A few bugs indeed...

Yet another reason why I'm sad that Canadian HQ shut down. Not that they didn't have their bugs, because they certainly did (one of the reasons it ended up closed in the first place), but at least on that corporate level they seemed to look out for people a little more. During my time with the Grey Knights I met most of the higher ups on a personal level, and it actually led to me NOT getting a job with them as a favour to me....Even though I was the best suited to a position they were hiring for, I was told after the fact that I didn't get it because they knew that they were shutting down in 6 months and didn't want to force me to move my family to Oakville just to end up out of work.
