Had a question as a noob tyranid player. I've been kind of under utilizing my stratagems and hive fleet powers/abilities in the few games I've played... It's not that I don't understand them, but I'm kind of missing how to use them effectively during the match. When and where to put the cards down, how long they are in play etc.
Any advice or resources (YouTube etc) that you would recommend?

Tabletop titans have some great battle reports (free) on their youtube channel, including lots of tyranids. Good way to see strats etc. in action.

I second watch battle reports! Play on tabletop has a couple tyranid episodes and their content is very digestible (40 minutes usually).

I also normally have the 4-5 strategems I really want to play picked out before the battle.
This would normally be dependent on my lists - so reroll wounds for monsters for example, overrun or mortal wounds on the charge. I know I'm going to use these every game so I have them all ready to go with cards on the table at the start of the game. Much easier than flipping through the book everytime you think "do I have a strat for this?"

Much easier than flipping through the book everytime you think "do I have a strat for this?" I do this with my lists for any army, helps conserve brainpower for other tasks during the game. If you go through your strats section you'll quickly find that your actual army list is probably ineligible to use around half the strats in your book, not that they are useless or anything, but that you just don't have any units with the keyword/requirements to use them. From there, you can whittle down to a few strats that you know you'll use every game, ones you'll use situationally (like ones that require a certain unit in a certain phase, or ones that you only want to use in a certain tactical situation), and ones that just don't seem worth the CP to use. There's a lot of things to remember in this game, don't be afraid to help yourself remember with cards, notes, or other tools so you don't have to remember everything in your head.
