That IS wacky.
Maybe they just didn't check last years? Or maybe they're trying to twist people's arms into adding to their impulse buy armies from last year XD

Nothing interests me on this or the AoS side this year, which is great because I already ordered the Slaves box.
They really seem to want to push the big named characters this year though. It's cool if you're new to a faction, but if you were already playing an army, unless you were also holding off on getting the named center piece, it may be less enticing. I suppose they mostly create these boxes as exciting excuses to start up new armies though. If you've already bought in, there's a good chance you're going to buy more stuff anyway.

I'm surprised that the Thousand Sons box isn't full of Tzaangors.

Yeah, well the new tzeentch battletome made tzaangors with dual weapons pretty spicy, especially in Beasts. So it makes sense that they stopped pushing them as soon as they made them good in at least one book haha.
In truth I'm glad they refrained though, there are already two start collecting boxes with them out there.

These are (almost) all armies imo with low player population. Death Guard being the only exception. If you told me this is effectively "overstock clearout", I'd believe you.

Lol I wasn't gonna say anything but 15 heavy intercessors definitely gives off that vibe

Man I'm really not a fan of the thousands sons and death guard boxes coming with their respective primarchs. I feel like it's not a great starting point for new people with either of those armies and most people who have those armies (me included) will already have the primarchs. The battleboxes are kinds disappointing for me this year.

It feels like a really weird point sink for someone starting out in the hobby.

I'm surprised that the Thousand Sons box isn't full of Tzaangors. It's a well known fact that Magnus the Red is actually just nine Tzaangors in a suit of armor. Ever wonder why he has those horn nipples on his breastplate? Now you know.

The Custodes and Sisters boxes look the best. They're the ones with good armies, a good mix of units, and an included leader that isn't BIG CHUNGUS PRIME.
If I was starting today, I might have picked up the Sisters box. (I've built a sizable portion of my army out of TWO copies last year's AdMech Battleforce box.)

I mean Morvenn Vahl is about as close as a sisters unit gets to a BIG CHUNGUS PRIME. She's closer to Guilliman in points than she is to Celestine, to put it in perspective.
Certainly it's not a box that is super appealing to buy duplicates of for that reason.
I'd say Imperial Knights is by far the most generically good, price dependent. You get a bunch of core models you'll be using in nearly every list and you can double up with no issue.
