It is dawn on a dark world. Grim battle has wiped out all life on the planet, except a single Custodes character I can't remember the name of, and a Hive Tyrant named, "Bitey Fuzzysnuggles".
My Hive Tyrant sucessfully charges one of my friend's Custodes. It's the only thing going on, on bowling ball world.
Only trouble us, that Custodes has, "fights first".
Now Da Roolz say that charging units fight first, but that all "fights first" are equal - and, that on my fight phase, in an example of true gentlemanly behavior, my opponent goes first.
I guess I'm just making sure this is correct, because it feels a bit ... counterintuitive, that I charge, and the get butchered on my own Fight phase, before I get to inflict sweet justice of my own.
OTOH, it does teach a valuable lesson about waiting one's turn...

In this instance, the tyrant would fight first. since there is only 1 fight happening.
however, hypothetically speaking, let's say Snuggles the tyrant charges, along with his friends (a squad of jeanstealers let's say) into a costodes squad with fight first.
The tyranids would get to choose first activation, since they charged. However the next activation would be the costodes if they survived. then the jeanstealers.

This might help as well. www.warhammer-community.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/OQ1TeUZ6hxw5jp1e.pdfThis text helps too. "1. Players alternate selecting eligible ‘fights first’ units to fight with, one at a time, starting with the player whose turn is taking place. 2. Players alternate selecting eligible ‘fights normally’ units to fight with, one at a time, starting with the player whose turn is not taking place. 3. Players alternate selecting eligible ‘fights last’ units to fight with, one at a time, starting with the player whose turn is taking place."

Units which have "fights first" are activated one at a time, starting with the active player. Charging bestows fights first.
In the case of a Hive Tyrant charging a Custodes character with fights first, the Hive Tyrant would be the first unit to activate.

As others have mentioned, you can break down the fight phase into 3 mini phases:
Everything with "fights first" fights, one at a time alternating player choice, starting with the player whose turn it currently is.
THEN ONCE ALL FIGHTS FIRST ARE RESOLVED FOR BOTH PLAYERS
Everything fighting at "normal" priority fights, one at a time alternating player choice, starting with the player whose turn it is NOT.
THEN ONCE ALL "NORMAL" FIGHTS ARE RESOLVED FOR BOTH PLAYERS
Everything with "fights last" fights, one at a time alternating player choice, starting with the player who turn it currently is.
TLDR: The Tyrant gets to make a sock puppet out of that Custodian because you win the "fight first" draw because it's your turn.
In a more complex world with multiple fights going on, you would have to decide if you want to activate the Tyrant first or if something else you charged with wants to fight first, because the Custode could "interupt" by being the first choice of the defending player, or the defending player could use the Counter Attack stratagem to fight with another unit elsewhere on the battlefield.

Clear as mud. How was I ever confused?
Thinking of it as three "steps" will help.
Thanks all!

Wait until you get a fight first interaction with fight last.... it's super fun trying to figure out who goes when
