Hey folks, My partner muskwa (Daniel) and I (Josh) are slowly getting into both 40k and Age of Sigmar... mostly due to the Warhammer Commander products introducing us to how awesome the lore/game is. I think we're waiting on 40k for 10th edition around the corner but we've building/painting our first AoS armies now. Dan is building for AOS Gloomspite Gitz - Squigs because they're adorable and I'm the edgy one going for Hedonites of Slaanesh or Soulblight Gravelords (Kastelai or Blood). 40k looks like Dan wants Orks and I want Drukhari or Chaos Demons - so at least we're consistent with our choices! We'd love to be able to get into the community and I'm sure that the lovely folks at Nexus could vouch for us being actual idiots. Few First Questions: 1. Should we look at ensuring that we're building armies compliant with the core rules and/or the new GHB with Galetian Champs? I'm not sure if people only play the new stuff or if it's like magic where people play different "formats"? 2. I've read the core rulebook a few times and played a few quick rounds between the two of us but obviously we're not going to get everything right. Is there a day that people play friendy games that are open to new players? Dan and I are converts from Toronto during COVID times and we recently decided to 100% stay in Kingston. I also have a pretty established EDH collection (22 built decks + 8 Precons www.moxfield.com/users/StrangeCasper ) if anyone plays both games and doesn't have an EDH deck they are welcome to use mine. Thanks everyone and I really hope to get into the community.

Welcome to the Kingston Area! Always a good day when two new hobbyist join us.
1. For 40k at least, most of the community ends up playing the newest iteration of "matched play" rules. Thankfully, building an army is a little less restrictive than building a deck for a format. There are very few outright banned or unsupported models, and the ones that are are usually pretty old, so no chance you can really buy them.
2. Check out the "looking for a game" section of the forum for both AoS and 40k. You can start a thread saying you're interested in learning games and folks will be more than happy to help out! The standard day for play at Kingston Gaming Nexus is Saturday for 40k.
Happy gaming!

Welcome to the forum!
For AOS, it's pretty casual here, so build anything you like! With the seasons changing every six months, chasing a meta isn't at all important. If you like an army go for it! Squigs are awesome and Hedonites are just getting a new book in the next couple of weeks so good time to jump in on that army!
Orks are super fun for 40k and Daemons are pretty fantastic right now (I have a LOT of chaos daemons lol). Dukhari are also a super fun playstyle - glass hammers that are very quick.
New players are always welcome - 40k day is Saturday at Nexus and AOS is generally Wednesday evenings at 6.
We're even having an AOS beginner friendly tourney coming up in April!

My name is dave, and I'm a beast of chaos.
There are a few rule sets for AoS floating around at the minute, but it's definitely a casual scene. I love all of those army choices. I've recently put together a couple of soulblight units, and I have a bunch of slaanesh I occasionally gaze longingly at, waiting for their time to jump to the front of the queue. Goblins are just great. They are high on my list of armies I will never collect, but love to see on the table. I've commited to enough hordes at this point.
I try to be available for a game most wednesday nights, but technically any evening there isn't an event should work. Weekends often work too, again, barring events. If either of you are looking for a learning game, feel free to PM me or just post on the looking for game section.

Pleasure to be introduced to everyone! Thanks for posting. From what I've heard AOS seems to be a more casual game and I'll absolutely post on the respective forums when we're ready to get going. I'm glad something like this exists because the hobby is super intimidating to start - but it looks so rewarding to get into.
Good to know the respective dates.
