And to no surprise, he's a complete beast of a fighter.

At least he isn't infantry. So no transhuman.

I think essentially everything that is inner circle keyworded is also packaged with the rule so I legitimately forgot the two are different. Can't wait for 9th to be over lol

Only thing I can think of that has a hope in heck of surviving a turn of combat against him would be a C'Tan or some other model where you can only do X amount of wounds per phase.

Yah, Abaddon would pumel him because of that wound cap.

Meanwhile Angron would probably have to die a couple of times before he takes Lion out. Well unless he aces his invul saves.

other than something with a wound cap though, it'll be tough to tangle with this guy and survive. 9 wounds means you aren't getting to shoot him unless your opponent messes up (not like there won't be deathwing terminators standing in front to tank all the shooting).

And you can't attack the guy anyway because he's in deep-strike waiting to drop in and wreck your everything.

The problem with putting out 'just okay' characters at the end of 9th when we've seen things like Abbaddon and Ghaz, is the sort of feels-bad moment when you realize the thing you've been waiting on for however long doesn't live up to expectations.
The Lion while being 'just okay' is literally outperformed by 10 Deathwing terminators right now, for 10 more points. Don't get me wrong, the Lion is cool, but it doesn't really change the fact that he's not as amazing as everyone hoped.
Gameplay-wise, nobody is going to be taken by surprise by a deep-striking cruise missile. If you're not screening, or have some sort of deep strike protection, then you kinda deserve it. And his rules are pretty much tuned to have him outpace any sort of bodyguard you might stick on him in that regard. Walking him up the table will at least guarantee he stays with his lads until you can position him properly, but like...then he's not doing his cool thing.
Until 10th resets it all, I bet he'll be a terror on casual tables, but Dark Angels don't exactly need much help in that regard.

Whether he's good or okay, I've sent my pre-order to Nexus. I'm used to DA being on a (very) sliding scale over the editions.

The advantage of the Lion is that he can fit in much smaller spots than said 10 Deathwing terminators. It's far easier to screen against a large unit of models versus a single monster-sized model.
