I have played against 4 opponents ever in 40k, so - apart from staying good fun at the table ... a That Guy question. Spore Mines completing objectives - clean wholesome fun, or That Guy? On the one hand it's probably not RAI, on the other, it's hilarious and I'm still terrible.

lol... not in reference to your user name... it's a running warhammer joke about someone who plays win at all costs at the expense of their opponent's fun - referred to as "that guy"...
didn't even think about your user name!

Probably, which is why I dunno if Biovores tossing Spore Mines is That Guy behavior.
Feels hilarious to ME, but I'd be the one tossing mines, so i may be biased.

Personally, I try not to play into things which are likely to be FAQ'd away - to use Jordan's example, there's no real point playing/testing lists which involve Ghazkghul and a bunch of Mega Nobz in a Trukk, since GW will (eventually) fix their blunders.
That said, nothing stops you right now. I say go for it.

seems counter-intuitive to me as a tyranid player for many editions, to think that spore mines can do any actions. They've always been written that they cannot do anything other than blow up. This may be intended, but it seems incredibly weird if it is.

40 it's gonna be a big one. Though realistically 40 sign ups means like 36 attendees If any sign-ups are made available I'd like to sign up! Or on a wait list of some kind pretty please. The website booking is completely closed so I can't opt into the wait list either. (Though not sure if this is still part of that booking issues you mentioned earlier or not if so okay)

Two big changes I see: -Some scoring (yay! my cards are out of date!) -You can stand on objectives again.

yep, standing on objectives is a good one (it was way too weird how they interacted with terrain to make it so bigger models couldn't even reach them!)
also they called out Towering, indirect fire and fate dice as being changed next week, as well as a points update next week.
I like the document and the suggestions it makes (which I'll follow for this one for sure)

That's a sight for sore eyes.
Thank goodness, they even highlighted (highlit?) the mission changes.

Two big changes I see: -Some scoring (yay! my cards are out of date!) -You can stand on objectives again. Am I understanding this correctly? When playing a tournament/competitive you can stand on objective markers but when playing a casual game you can't? That seems incredibly arbitrary and counter-intuitive to me. I assume that cant be right and thus is the defacto rules update to the matter so that you can always stand on objectives?
