Two big changes I see: -Some scoring (yay! my cards are out of date!) -You can stand on objectives again. Am I understanding this correctly? When playing a tournament/competitive you can stand on objective markers but when playing a casual game you can't? That seems incredibly arbitrary and counter-intuitive to me. I assume that cant be right and thus is the defacto rules update to the matter so that you can always stand on objectives? You are understanding it correctly. GW's balance updates are technically only ever for Matched Play - hence the joke that playing Votann in Crusade, for instance, was a great way to bully your friends. For the average game, in my experience, the assumption is generally that all Matched Play patches are in effect.

yes, as stated above, we generally use the "matched play" rules for even casual games... so feel free to stand on objectives whenever you want!

But don't bring Spartans. Because they're legends units, they're not allowed in tournament play; unless Shannon says it's okay to bring legends units.

Legends do both have rules and points; I guess it could be alluded to that Shannon hasn't said no to legends units; but by the current rules of 10th edition, they're not allowed in tournament play.
That said, I can see your intuitive leap into Legends units being allowed as they both have points and dataslates.

I mean, his response was to the question I specifically asked about heresy stuff sooooo

Yes, because that's your interpretation of his words. In your opinion, a unit is legal because it has a datacard and points.
I am saying that just because it has those two pieces, it isn't legal for tournament play by the actual rules of 10th ed 40k, so... It's not a "legal unit" by the creators of the game in regards to legends units and tournament play. Which goes back to my first statement of "unless Shannon says it's okay to bring legends units.".

I think what Zach is saying is that Shannon's reply was in direct response to bringing Legends units. I took Shannon's response as being in the affermative as well.

It tends to be the case that most of the tournament makes sense rules like these wind up adopted to non competitive play and will very likely be under errata when the rest is as well.

Okay, Shannon's done playing D&D now so can confirm... bring what you want to this tournament - including legends, as they're about as balanced as everything else right now (everything getting their rules at once)
Aim is to have fun... so if bringing your newly thrown to legends models out for a tourney is fun for you - go for it!
(I'll be stricter for Teams and Clubs, but this is not strict at all, anything goes)
