So Orks are in such a wierd spot. Combat isn't as deadly as it use to be, Ork dakka that use to have a ton of twin-linked guns to get extra shots to make up for BS 5+ are now just re-roll wounds so pure shooting isnt anything either. YET, I think orks are gonna play the crap out of missions and have all sort of weird and wild tech and can still show up on both phases CC/shooting in a meaningful way.
I think with the index there are so many ways to play the orks ( other than speed waaaagh being super dead) that unit choice is going to be more preference of play style.
List 1 - WILD WACKY ONCE BAD NOW GOOD?
3x Trukks 150 pts
2x3 Squighogs 220
1x6 squig hogs 220 1x Smasha squig -90 pt enhancement - DEV wounds on melee attacks
2x 10 Beast snagga boyz 2x Beast Boss ( go in BSB)
1x Mek
1x Gorkanaut
1x Badrack 10x flashgitz ( have Badrack)
11x grots 22x grots 1x Zogrot ( goes in 22 grots)
1x Squig buggie
So it's just a mash of things that were bad and now look playable?

Ya it's a lot of stuff that I want to test but taking a step back into the meta of the game. I am not sure if orks can kill terminators, they just don't have anything that feels like it can deal with that profile. I can deal with monsters and tanks and infantry but 2+ on 3W is a hard break point for orks.

Could it be something like Sons in 9th and vehicles? Using suboptimal weaponry with buffs to "death by a thousand cuts" them? I'm not saying it's a good strategy, but are there any re-roll wounds/anti-infantry bits that could bury them in saves?
Shannon and I were talking earlier, and I made mention that I'm stoked for the FW index, as many xenos armies didn't get their toys taken away, and could actually be a way to fill any gaps that are in the bar-standard index.

The answer is clear - look no further than the humble Stompa. 18 Attacks at 3 Damage? Unprecedented! Honestly when the stat line was release, there was a breif moment where I thought the Stompa might be te big bad of 10th. if that thing had been priced like knights and ended up around the 550 mark it would be top 10 in the game. If it had been priced at a I can build the list around it cost of 650 you could see some fring list pop up that could chace middle tables, and yet as always GW slapped him with a 800 pt price tag. Which means he is the king of the meme units. maybe in a skewed list at 1000=1250 pts since orks are so cheap but then you can't really play the game

I'm happy stompa's are in the mix for Saturday fun days and given rules with point adjustment could be a serious model pretty easily.
I will say that given the careen strat a stomps can just end a game on death...moving 12" and then dealing everything in 6" 2d6 mortals walking over all 4" or less terrain and all other models. It's pretty funny.

Ok so games 2 and 3 of the edition with orks. I think I have learned some lessons so far:
- Hogs are better then I expected going from 25 ppm to 36 felt really bad but they might be worth it. They have a really good generalist profile but can't fight into -1 damage.
-Mek + Gorkanaut felt like it could be something checky but it just dies and takes the 340 pts with it and gives nothing back. I forgot it has towering but can't shoot worth a dam so it just melts since it can't hide at all. One isn't enough to do anything.
- Didn't get a good read on flash gitz, but haven't given up on them yet.
-grots remain an auto include but the Super grot deathball isn't as good as I expected cause even in best case they just walk away from combat and shoot you to death.
-Beastboss are crazy good, I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see 3x 10 man snagga with 3x boss. when they touch someting they kill.
- Need some High strenght shooting, orks do decent damage but I need something ranged to soften units up first. So new Try
- -1 to hit debuff buggie was a gimmick that did almost nothing for 100 pts so probably getting cut
So the New list is looking a little more board control and varried damage dealers sources. Still don't know how to play around vs good overwatch since a lot of units are pretty soft.

that beast boss was freaking terrifying! I can see you using them alot. I was also very surprised at how good grots are now. The squig dudes were really good - just not vs. Tfexes New list looks fun... interested to see how the list evolves!

Ya I also noticed that squig hogs boyz move plenty fast so gave the Nob on smash some more dev wounds with anti tank/monster and gonna move the bonus movement to a beast boss to get out of those trucks faster.
