www.warhammer-community.com/2023/07/13/cities-of-sigmar-range-announcement/Honestly I think it could have been a lot worse. My only concern now is that the teased shadow elves of ulgu will inevitably rob CoS of its last elven range- hopefully at that time they would get a wave of free/dispossessed elves of their own that are more properly integrated into the multi-racial realms of Sigmar.

hmmm interesting... seems like the models being discontinued from cities of sigmar would be direct ports over to old world.

Even if old world weren't foreseeable I think these squattings were all pretty natural. -Freeguild/humans are being remodeled so obviously they were toast -Wood elves have already had two rounds of squattings (they currently don't even have a proper wood elf archer unit lol) so we knew their days were numbered -Phoenix guards and shadow warriors aren't actually integrated with any of the sigmar subranges so they make natural sense to cut
The last two basically mean the entire CoS elf range is consolidated to one encatchment: old school dark elves. Whatever plans they have for elves in Cities, it's probably easiest for GW if they're under a single banner.

Follow up musing- what will become of the Phoenicium without their titular units, the Phoenix Guards? Will GW contrive a plot beat to wipe it out, or will the staple unit simply be represented by other models?
Will the soldiers of the Phoenix Temples simply be, you know, whatever?
It would be sad to see one of the handful of founding cities (and one with such a fetching paintjob) get axed for product line reasons.
