So I finished reading the rules the other day and I think I understand most of it. But it felt really vague on how mission selection worked.
If someone could explain it that would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

The mission selection is done with the card deck. You draw a deployment card, a mission card, and a "twist" card to use for the generation of the mission. Then you use the secondary cards for attacker/defender to score your secondary missions. Alternatively, if you do not have a card deck, you can also use the tabletop battles app from Goonhammer (which even lets you draw cards and will generate the missions randomly for you!) you can find the app here: ttba.goonhammer.com/

OK, so I'm looking at the Goonhammer app.
And by golly I'm lost, so what does "army is battle ready" mean?
And it seems like you draw more missions as the game progresses?
Sorry, if this question is a little dumb. But could you give me a step by step guide on how to do mission selection and what they mean in Goonhammer, like I'm a 4 year old or something?

Battle ready just means painted, as by GW rules you get 10 points if your army is painted... locally we normally either ignore that, or both people just get it
Step one: determine deployment map... This tells you where the objectives go and where your deployment zone is..which is where you get to place your army to begin the game
Step two: determine the primary mission... So how do you score primary points (max 50) throughout the game.
Step three: determine any special mission rule (like a twist) you can ignore this step (one of the cards is called chilling rain which essentially means no twist)

Now you determine who is attacker and defender by rolling off.
Alternate putting units in your deployment zone.
Roll off for who goes first. (Highest roll has to go first)
Top of your turn you draw a couple secondary cards and that tells you what to do to score points on your turn
