Around here, do gun drones that come with Tau vehicles count as kill points? Needless to say, for me, the issue will often come up in Annhilation missions. Online, I haven't seen any comprehensive agreement on the issue. I'm wondering what we do around here.
On one hand, although the FAQ says they don't count towards Victory Points, that's not the same thing. On the other hand, it says they form a squad when they detach, just like a smaller but standard group of gun drones. -shrugs-

If I recall, the ruling that was made when this came up was that since they don't count towards victory points, they don't give kill points either.

I don't think I've ever properly ruled on this before, but I would have to agree with Randy that given that they don't count for Victory Points that they also do not give a Kill Point. My only confusion regarding this would be that it seems quite strong for them to not count as a Kill point but be able to detatch and run off to contest an objective.
I'm going to make my preliminary ruling that NO they do not count as Kill Points, but I reserve the right to reverse it if I find a convincing reason too online (re: something official and not just people on forums)

To add to that, you also ruled that since they counted for nothing, they couldn't contest either....at least at the one tournament when it came up. I think at the time we were still waiting on an FAQ...which I don't think ever came

Seems both logical and fair enough to me.

I would also say no to kill points. Their value is inherently built into the Devilfish/Piranha so whether the drones survive or not does not matter. The fate of the Devilfish is what gives the points. As a squad of two, they are not much threat (well, tiny threat in a squad of up to 10 if it is a Piranha squadron's drones detaching).

no kill point would make sense.... of course it's not like the last nid codex made spore mines shot by biovores worth a kill point did they...?
oh wait they did! but that was just downright stupid..... at least they fixed that error in the new dex...

Yep, fixed that one problem with nids, then they set aside the normal beat stick and applied Gav Thorpe's old horse pistol and set nids straight to the glue factory.

An additional question about vehicular gun drones: if they are treated as passengers, and when detached form a squadron just like a normal gun drone squadron, does that mean they can deploy separately? If so, does that mean they can therefore deepstrike? I can't find anything in the codex saying otherwise.

No, since they're attached to the vehicle and included in the base cost, they have to be in play before separating into their own unit, like the Prime joining units in drop pods; the option is there to do so before the game begins you just can't preempt a special rule.
