I found the Hobby Streak method very effective, but I also realized that sometimes I was hobbying out of obligation and being a rather rude host sneaking off to paint when I had company etc. So this year I will simply embark on a Hobby Journey where I aim to hobby every week.
Having said that, this week and year did have a Day 1:
- reassembled a broken Lictor from 4th Ed - undercoated a 2nd Ed (?) Zoanthrope to be a Neurothrope. So it has legs. Do you want to tell him? - painted lenses/weapons on the Gladiator Lancer - began reassembly of ten metal, unpainted Tyranid Gargoyles
Quite a day. I enjoyed the lenses because it made me watch a Vince Venterella video and I learned some stuff. It was satisfying to rebuild a broken model and start to get him ready for the tabletop again.
The metal Gargoyles are just as frustrating as they were 15 years ago. But this time I will tame them and they will see the tabletop...Once I unstick my fingers from the Crazy Glue...

Day 2: Finished assembly and laid down the basecoats on the Gargoyles Day 3: Started the day with a 40K game with the Gargoyles, then decaled the Lancer and applied washes/details to the Gargoyles before assembling 10 x Horus Heresy Assault Marines Day 4: Undercoated and basecoated the Assault Marines
Getting the Gargoyles on the tabletop was great. So they died on Turn 3 and didn't kill anything. They scored 12 points, however, and were on the tabletop instead of in a bitz box. I did notice, though, that they chipped. Have to remember to Ard Coat metal models....
I am very happy with the Lancer. Dark Angels tanks aren't too tough, but I really liked the Army Painter airbrush paint system. Not too expensive and works really well.
I should be around 500 points by the end of the week. Doubt I will maintain that pace, but making hay while the sun shines ( I am on leave).

I've been using the army painter tricolor system on a few armies now, and I really like the effect.
great progress!

Day 5: Incubi Darkness edge highlight on 30K Assault Marines - lots of effort that does not show anything immediately Day 6: Leadbelcher on the Marines - also got a fun 40K game in with my Dark Angels against Jonathan's Necrons Day 7: Khorne Red on weapons Day 8: Holsters, Grenades and Kabalite Green highlights. The highlights depend on the Incubi Darkness work done earlier
Slow and steady work with Leadbelcher mistakes showing very clearly on the black armour of the Assault Marines. Will wash and final highlight tomorrow followed by bases.

My streak got to 14 days, but some travel and work commitments arrived. Still been busy. Finished the Horus Heresy Assault Marines. Assembled and painted a Ral Partha lead medieval knight from 1979…good fun and I will now paint the other 14 knights for a Chainmail project. Learning how to paint medieval knights meant a dive into source books and videos - good mental stretch.
Weirdly enough my Club Champs list is painted, but if I do get a Deathwing Assault box this weekend I may have some new Deathwing Knights to paint.

So, no Deathwing Assault box.
Did paint the horses on five Ral Partha knights so that is something! Also painted up a Hunter-Killer missile and magnetized it to go on my 1996 Predator Annihilator.
I will keep working on the lead miniatures until the Deathwing arrive...
Also got a great game in with my Clubs list/League list against Shannon's big bugs. It looked very grim very early and I knew the game was lost but...kept playing through to Turn 5 and had a great time. Score was never in doubt but the final result was still respectable and some epic moments right until the end. The Terminator Captain chopping his way through a Hive Tyrant and getting to the middle of the board to challenge all as the game hit Turn 5 was a very memorable gaming moment. A good example of never throwing in the towel - you might miss an epic moment!
Playing against beautifully-painted giant Nids was also great - see, back to Hobby!

Mike came through and I spent the last two weeks assembling the Deathwing Assault Box. I find the new kits take some time to build as you can't really do assembly line because they have to go together "just so." Great models. Did a test paint job on one with the Army Painter Colour Triad. I probably have 100 Deathwing Terminators in metal and plastic, but I was keen to try a new method.
I am, thus, far, happy with the results. Only one airbrush mishap with minimal casualties...These guys will likely take two more weeks to get to tabletop, but you might see them sneak onto the table before they are fully done.
Also snuck in some games at Club Champs!
Funnily enough, I had declared three weeks ago that my Clubs army was fully painted. Then the night before I realized that my Battle Scribe list had Assault Bolters instead of Plasma Incinerators for my Inceptors. Dug around through my various army boxes to find my broken Assault Bolter Inceptors from 2018. Spent the evening repairing and repainting them - Green Stuff does wonders when you cover it with steel wool smoke! So its not a tourey if you are not painting something at 0600 hrs in the morning...
Have I mentioned that the Inceptor flight stands are bad and that the designer should feel bad? Because they are and they should.

Streak is at 20 days, with some days have lots of hobby and others more limited.
Basecoated the other nine Deathwing Terminators, five Deathwing Knights and Belial using the Army Painter tri-system. I am happy with, although an airbrush mishap has resulted in many of my paint bottles having a Charred Bone dusting...
Spent the last three days on the Deathwing Knights - they snuck on the tabletop partially done but they are now finished. Belial and the Deathwing Terminators are now coming along. I take my time once the bone colour is down since mistakes show very clearly!
Will likely take the next two weeks, and work trip will interupt.

So the work trip to London did interrupt the streak, as did a rough following week at work. Still, got in a League game!
Kept plugging away at the big brick of 10 Deathwing Terminators. They are basecoated, washed and based. Still have some detail work to do, but I am happy with the work.
Also built ten of the new Scouts. They are great models, but a bit of a pain to build. Maybe the AUTOCAD at Nottingham is out to get me, or I just have to get with the program. Still, they look cool and I look forward to painting them.
I would be painting them, but I picked up a box of Inner Circle Companions today. They are great models. I am sure they will be great rules-wise by 12th Ed!
Tomorrow should be a whirlwind of airbrushing in my basement. And I will finish those Deathwing Terminators.

A productive few days. Finished the Deathwing Terminators and the Inner Cirle Companions. Started to basecoat the ten Scouts.
Thus far:
Dark Angels 40K - 965 points Dark Angels 30K - 140 points Tyranids - 115 points
Total - 1,220 points
Really enjoyed painting the Inner Circle Companions!

Thanks! Smashed out the 10 new Space Marine Scouts today. I had started with Morghast Bone for the fatigues, but I found it had poor coverage so I went back to old-faithful Zhandri Dust and Agrax Earthshade. The new Scout sculpts are good. Since I run them in virtually all of my lists this should be a good investment. My Scouts up until today were the metal guys from 1997. They also looked good, but they also look so small next to new Marines. Back to paint, I find the newer GW paints are hit and miss. The new Nuln Oil and Agrax Earthshade are a step back. I have found newer pots such as the Morghast Bone and even Abadon Black are splotchy. On the other hand, Gal Vorbak Red and Barak-Nur-Burgundy have provided very rich coverage.

yeah I've certainly had some hit and miss ones with citadel lately... why would they change nuln oil and agrax.. their best washes? I'm sure it has something to do with switching manufacturers or something but geez, don't they at least own the mix?

Painted up a Wrath Axe invocation for the AOS tourney - always enjoy those Army Painter airbrush Tri-Colour sets. Plus its not a tourney if you are not painting at midnight the night before.
Spent the days prior assembling five Sternguard Veteran models. Great kits with lots of options and I have just learned to accept that with new GW kits you have to follow the instructions...
The Dark Angels upgrade sprues from the Deathwing Assault box paired very nicely with the Sternguard, and it was little like ten years ago when I was assembling the (then new) Dark Angels Veteran boxes.
Based on Clark's inspiration at the counter I am going for a Risen look. I came home from the AOS tourney and laid down the undercoat and zenithal, followed by the Army Painter airbrush bottles for Dark Angels. Tomorrow I will go with red hoods and tabards.
They will go along with the Inner Circle Companions for my Great Crusade.
Also got in a 40K league game and an AOS tourney - so lots of hobby this weekend!
