Next time you are down at Nexus take a peek in the Warmachine Protectorate of Menoth sourcebook. Towards the back they give an AWESOME tutorial on how to paint quick, easy flames.

As for brick I'd suggest basing them white then placing a coat of 50/50 red gore and snakebite leather. Once that's dried, add a touch of bleached bone to your 50/50 mix and drybrush on, repeat process adding progressively more bleached bone to the mix until you've got the color depth you feel is right for the bases.

For flames:
I use foundation paint red, paint the whole shape you want to look like flames.
then blood red, paint inside this shape, leaving some of the first colour at the bottom and a bit on the sides, blending together but having a bit of the first colour showing
then blazing orange... same principle, with a little of the blood red showing - concentrate more on the upper section being orange
then bright yellow, mainly just on the tips of the flames
lastly a little bit of white just on the very tip of the flames (hottest point)
If you're doing lava, its the same recipe, just keep the lighter (hotter) colours more towards the middle, cooler colours on the outside

for brick I'd do:
foundation red drybrush vermin brown light drybrush snakebite leather very light drybrush bleached bone
