In explaining the Elite slot in the Force Organization chart, I'm going to break it up into two categories - Single models and Units. First let's jump right in with the single models.
Chaplain -
Your usual Chaplain of 5th edition space marines. Veteran stats with WS 5 and 2 wounds with the usual unit buffs. Availability as an elite choice is incredibly sweet, and gives some valuable flexibility in Force Org choices.
Sanguinary Priests -
These guys are one of the big things that set us apart from the other codices. They have a Blood Chalice, which gives all friendly units in 6'' Furious Charge and Feel no Pain. They are all Independant characters and can be customized to support the role you wish to put them into with whatever unit you wish. Available in units of 3 that can be broken off.
Corbulo -
Corbulo is a Sanguinary priest with super stats, 2 wounds and takes his personal Feel no Pain on a 2+ That's right... he's a bullet magnet if I ever saw one. He also comes with a STR 5 rending chainsword and the ability to allow you to re roll one roll of your choice during the game! He's done some wonderful things for me in the past, and don't knock a random re roll at any point during the game. He is however the cost of 2 Sanguinary priests, so is sometimes overlooked due to point restrictions.
Tech Marine -
Not really sure what Ward was thinking with this, but the Tech Marine has veteran stats with only 1 wound, 2+ armor but no invul save... and no Independent character status! Instantly a waste of points in any list. Avoid at all costs.
Furioso Dreadnoughts -
They come with two close combat Dreadnought weapons base with a Storm bolter, Melta gun and the wonderful, all powerful AV 13 front armor. Can take a Drop pod as a dedicated transport, and lots of neat equipment possibilities. One of note are Blood Talons, which are Lightning Claws for a Dreadnought that give you an extra attack for every successful wound caused! Can you say dead squad of orcs five times really fast? He'll get it done before you get it out, barring bad dice. Can also be upgraded to a Librarian... Let me say that again. Librarian Dreadnought. K. Psychic hooding, flying, buffing dreadnought. 'Nough said.
Now for the unit selection of the Elite choices. Bam.
Tactical Terminators -
Your usual Terminators with Storm Bolters and Power fists. Generic equipment options, and average Terminator cost. Usually doesn't mesh very well with the play style of the codex however... the whole lumbering forward shooting things while the rest of your army is zooming around punching things in the face doesn't generally work out too well. A sad but true fact for the codex.
Assault Terminators -
Terminator armor and Lightning Claws. What's not to like? May purchase TH/SS for 5 points... wait, what?! We have to pay for what the other codices can get for free?! How lame! Oh well, can't really knock em. Solid center piece combat unit to crush your enemy beneath their claws and heavy stepped heels.
Sanguinary Guard -
One of the unique unit selections I failed to mention in my introduction. They're veteran Assault marines with Artificier armor, storm bolters and MC 2h power weapons. In most cases they equate to a whole lot of dead marines, given they have no invulnerable save and share the cost and slot of Terminators. Oh what I'd give for an invulnerable save on these little golden guys. Can work in certain lists, but usually not very effective.
Sternguard Veterans -
Tactical marines with Veteran stats, special ammunition and awesome shooting weapon choices. Fast rhinos and Feel No Pain lend themselves well to these rapid firing fools - keep that in mind.
This closes up the Elite choices section, stay tuned for the Troops!
