Here's the heavy support - the spot where most of your long ranged, scary firepower is going to come from. Let's jump right into it.
Vindicator -
A fast Vindicator. What does this mean? It means the vehicles with debatably the most frightening weapon in the game can move 12'' and shoot you from 24'' away. That's a big template coming in at STR 10 AP3 and a whole lot of pain. One of the most feared and hated vehicles just became more so.
Predator -
Preds come stock with an Auto cannon turret, and can be given Heavy bolter or Lascannon sponsons. I'll leave out the detail of the turret upgrade, because mathematically it makes no sense. The usual downside of the vehicle for other codices is the inability to move and fire all of it's weapons. The fact that it's fast for us means it can move 6'' and still bring all of it's long range heavy weapons to bare. Wonderful.
Whirlwind -
The red headed stepchild of the Heavy support slot. Everything else in the choice is better. Fluff and visual wise - they're great, but on the actual tabletop there's better things to use.
Devastators -
Marines that can take up to 4 heavy weapons for cheaper then our vanilla cousins. Best used in units of 5 with 4 missile launchers or 4 plasma cannons to keep them relatively cheap. Can't go wrong with these.
Dreadnought -
The usual grade dreadnought stock with a Multi Melta and Fist. Can be upgraded to use a multitude of long range and medium ranged guns. Best used with Twin linked Lascannon and Missile launcher or two Twin linked Auto cannons. Generally cheap, able to move around and if need be tie something up in assault. Dreadnoughts in the Heavy support slot are brilliant.
Stormraven Gunship -
A new vehicle that was introduced in our codex but also given to the Grey Knights is this big bird. AV 12 all around it isn't the most durable vehicle, but it's a fast skimmer with power of the machine spirit and the ability to carry a strong number of heavy weapons. Not to mention it has the ability to carry 12 models (or 6 Jump pack / Terminator models) in the front compartment and a Dreadnought in the rear compartment. Yes, your Dreadnoughts can jump out of this thing and punch people in the face. The cherry on top is that it's an assault vehicle. Great, right? Slightly cheaper then a Land raider and immune to melta, this bird has become a favored troop transport for many generals using our codex and for good reason. It's fast, imposing and sometimes annoying, but has worked it's way into my heart.
This wraps up my short write up of the selections in the Blood Angels codex. The army is a lot of fun, and lends itself well to my favored playstyle approach - bloody combat and high speed games. Sign up today for the Blood Angels! Tom out.
Lemme know if you would also like a post with some generic list templates for starting players, Shannon.
