Well I broke down and bought 2 finecast models - one broodlord and one lictor (that's right I said lictor!). I plan to try a variety of lists with lictors and deathleaper and no hive guard/zoeys - I got inspired by a guy from the Hive Mind forum.
Anyways, I found the finecast models to be fine and noticed zero miscasts in the parts. With all the internet comments on finecast I thought I'd mention it. Of course its only 2 kits so a small sample. Anyone else fine with their finecast purchases (not talking about the cost)?

I've had about 50% perfect (although a ton of flash)
and 50% with problems.... bubbles (even small ones) are annoying... fine parts like fingers around a small staff... mould wasn't proper ( BIG dents in the fingers that are hopefully not going to be that noticeable)

I was apprehensive about buying finecast and maybe I just got lucky. I agree that the product should be good. Missing fingers or 'dents' are unacceptable. 50% with problems is outrageous. Hopefully GW gets this corrected or goes to plastic. I hope GW doesn't up the price further to cover costs of all the bad casts.

I took a closer look and found a small hole, from a bubble I guess, on the under side of the lictor's tail so it fortunately isn't a problem.

I haven't bought any, but the ones I have seen have looked very good, at least where there was no casting problem. That said, like others have commented, there is a close to 50% problem rate, which is really unacceptable for a mass produced product. If they can get it to work, the finecast looks amazing, but it really should have been tested MUCH more before switching over if that's how things are going to turn out.

oh... and $46 for one ogre character because it's "finecast"... while the big new plastic ironblaster kit that makes two complete rare choices is $39....
there's that too.....

Yes on top of the quality problems the cost is annoying. Finecast was done to save money because of the cost of doing metal but a broodlord went from about 23.99 to 29.99. Switching should save them money (quality issues aside) but GW seems to want to gouge the customer further and get a greater profit margin. They did that with new plastic kits too.

well one podcast (40k radio IIRC) says/thinks that GW is just temporarily using finecast untill they can just make all the plastic bits (like the WoC sorcerors and now saurus guy and nurgle lord guy)

I just recently bought 2 Hive Guard and a Zoanthrope in finecast. The Zoanthrope has a messed up ridge on its forehead from some massive bubbling but I think I'm just going to use some green stuff to "repair" it and one of the two Hive Guard came without a base (luckily I had a base of the appropriate size kicking around) and was missing a small part of his gun which I am also going to green stuff. It's not a big piece and I'm not really sure why that piece is separate from the rest of the gun anyways So my first experience with finecast is 33% complete/molded correctly... not exactly stellar.

Ninja maneater I just purchased and assembled had a massive mould line imperfection where it actually looked as though the mould was offset and therefore had to be trimmed substantially all along one side of the model, along with a couple of small bubbles.
not impressed thus far with finecast to be honest... maybe I'm just getting bad luck with it....
