they're actually much more playable than before due to a couple of changes... the first being the amount of necromancers you can now field is truly scary with no slot limit, only percentages... at 25% of 2250 if you field only necros with the free ION spell as their only spell, that is a lot of casters able to support your zombie horde (and very difficult for your opponent to take out all your casters as they'll be bunkered behind unbreakable troops!)
Also the change to fear works in your favor now... sure there's no autobreak, but really, when's the last time you saw zombies win combat without a flank or something else helping them? (ie: your opponent completely whiffling)
With the new rules, your opponent tests for fear every round and if they fail it's WS1 for them... suddenly your zombies have a chance of hitting, and now your opponent is hitting them on 4's.... if they lose combat, they're no worse off... but now they'll on average suffer less wounds, inflict more wounds than before, and be easier to maintain by your casters...
they're not elite troops by any means... but I think the zombie horde is far more viable this edition than the last one....
a bag of small bases and random arms and heads make lots of extra zombies "rising from the ground" as well... so one of the most cost effective core to make into a horde $ wise....

and making simple graves would be easy and make you look much less cheap XD

I just realize my poor zombies got WS 1 ... so they still hit on 4s if you miss your fear... and if not on 5s...

...still an improvement!
the real bonus is going to be with the synergy of necromancers and zombies now... cheap disposable casters that give you ION coverage... and still allow you to one dice most of the castings - who cares if you roll a 1 or 2, ending your casting for the phase for that guy... if that's the only spell he's going to cast anyways?

A mass of zombies would be interesting. Now if they were zombie dwarfs than that would be really scary!

Yup. Remember your Zombies aren't likely to break anything themselves unless something very odd happens. WS1 and S2 just...well...they're as bad as anything gets in Warhammer. But what they can do is slow up an enemy unit pretty much forever if you have several invocation necromancers as people have suggested. Get them stuck in with the baddest enemy unit (unless they can put out 25+ attacks a turn....Zombies are best against guys that hit HARD but not a lot, like Executioners or White Lions), and watch them be unable to attack anything else for the rest of the game. At your leisure, flank them with something killy and watch them start losing models that they CAN'T bring back, or strike back with due to the way flanking works.
Given how cheap a mob of zombies and some necros with just IoN are, it seems like a "why wouldn't you do this" kind of tactic to me!

Just want to know with the new rules even if you get the charge you still going by Initiative... and is there a new rule for poisson attack because horde of ghoul with three rank fighting could be nice too!

Yes, all striking will be done at initiative order at all times. That said, casualties are removed from the back, so in most situations both units will get their full group of attacks. Charging simply gives +1 to combat resolution.
Not sure about rules for poison though.
Rumour has Fishmen due out at some point in 8th though =P
