With skirmishers getting a hit and the new horde rules i was thinking of changing my army a bit. i was thinking of 40 saurus warriors but that a lot of points in a large slow moving unit. so i thought instead to maybe get ride of my skink skirmishers and take a large 40 unit of skinks with javelins and Shields, lots of attacks the first two get stand and shoot when charged and they are poison.

Hmm...not sure about that one....the S and T of 2 means they'll be getting ground down VERY fast in extended combat against the larger blocks other people have. Add in some Kroxies and it might help. Big units of Saurus seem nigh unbreakable in this edition though, if you can keep your ranks above the other person.....stubborn and Cold Blooded is HARD to remove.

yeah i was thinking that also, and they would hit hard back it would be hard to beat. but 40 saurus with spears(not even sure i should get spears if its a horde since they all get to attack anyway) costs 510 points with full command

The thing is, 450-500 pt units are going to be all over the place in 8th if I view things correctly.

You do have to remember though, elite units fielded as a horde are generally a very bad idea. Flank charge from a ranked unit negates your ranks, no extra attacks (to the front only for supporting attacks!) so will have you losing combat still very quickly.... oh your 500 point unit is a tarpit for a couple turns? congrats, zombies do that too!
10 wide horde will be probably used by cheap infantry, but I just can't see it being feasible for the pricier units... although the dwarf players would love you to put your expensive executioners in a horde... fits those big no guess templates VERY well!
my thoughts are that horde rule is useful for some armies (goblins and skaven come to mind) but not as effective for the elite armies....

I think thats the only good think about Vamps so far I dont care about putting Ghouls, Zombie or Squellies in horde formation because I dont care if they die

true thats why i was thinking skinks cheap, and have poison, and will hold up their horde for my saurus flank charges

Yup. Core of my Bret force is a 10x5 unit of 50 peasants with Halberds. Keep them near a BSB and general for LD re-rolls, and they get 30 S4 attacks back. If there's nothing Horde-worthy for them to fight, they go to 5 wide and 10 deep....should still be able to combo-charge with some knights, and good luck having anything with more ranks than that to stay stubborn! All for 250 points, which is not bad at all. And their banner isn't even worth anything if they do get run down!
I'm going to keep my "elite" units for my elves in a 25-30 range, or 21 (likely) for Swordsmasters. I think the 3rd rank is invaluable for choppy infantry, as it means you're fighting at maximum capacity for the longest time. My spears are a hard one though, as I want to make sure I have a solid number of ranks, and don't start losing attacks too soon (can attack in 4 ranks with re-rolls to hit, 5 in Horde), but they quickly get pricey. I'm thinking a unit of 30-35 seaguard 6-7 wide will be my Core for 8th.

nope, no restrictions on stand and shoot... in fact, you can go up to within 1" of a unit, shoot them, then stand and shoot for the inevitable charge, as there's no minimum distance anymore for stand and shoot with blowpipes!

What's the range of your skinks with javelins?

only 8 inches, but they are poison and also weapon for close combat, where as the blowpipes are 12inches 2x multiple shots, but aren't used in close combat

actually blowpipes arnt changed at all its the javalins that have changed. Javalins are now 12" range, and can always stand and shoot, so a big buff there, people only thought blowpipes got the rule becasue of the picture of a skink with one beside it..
