So I was perusing Warseer and found an interesting rules question. It was concern passengers shooting from vehicles. I was shocked since it meant that since 5th came I've been cheating with my Dark Eldar so I looked it up.
So, apparently, GW failed to include the rule that in 4th Ed allowed you to move 12" with a fast transport and still have the passengers shoot.
Pg 66 (minibook) under Fire Points:
"Models firing from a vehicle count as moving if the vehicle moves, and may not fire if the vehicle moved at cruising speed that turn"
And there is nothing in the Open-topped or Fast vehicle sections to overrule that. :S Guess I'm going to have to do some major rethinking for my Dark Eldar list.
Here's hoping that ruling gets changed with 6th

really? I always thought that was a givin :/ So did everyone I'm guessing. Really puts a hurt on the army since you need to be moving fast (more than 6") to have a hope of staying alive.

Possibly I may just have to try out warrior-hordes on foot again and see how that goes ;D

i knew about that rule because i have my marines fire of a shot out the rhino hatch every once in a while. thought that was something that only affected tanks not fast skimmers. realy screws over toms army list though he has somthing like 7 vehicles moveing 12 with pasengers shooting. amazing what changeing 1n little rule does to an army, makes me afraid for 6th

Hurrah! If I ever play this game I can't shoot out of my Transports anyway.
Though Eldar would be WAY too stupid if you chould shoot out of Wave Serpents.

Yeah, weird. Hadn't checked it personally until right now lol. Oh well, it just means understanding how to prioritize targets and decision on movement are more important for Dark Eldar then we thought originally. I had assumed it was the same as 4th- or that they had put something into open-topped to make it possible, guess not. Sorry bout that then Trevor. Though honestly I don't really see it changing much of how my army plays overall, I'll have to go flat out slightly more often in earlier turns for positioning.

Just to be thorough I also checked the Rulebook FAQ but nothing was mentioned to override it.
Though I did find the ruling that says since all vehicles count as moving at Cruising when they DS they cannot shoot the turn they arrive(unless they are fast). I always said they couldn't when asked, but just couldn't remember where I'd read it...not that it really changes much
